Georgia is still No. 2 in the AP Top 25 after Week 2, holding its spot behind new No. 1 Texas in the latest Associated Press poll.
Texas jumped to the top and collected 56 first-place votes. Georgia got three, while Notre Dame picked up one, Indiana got three, Miami received four and LSU earned one. The Bulldogs are coming off a 70-20 win at home over Western Kentucky.
The SEC is loaded near the top of the rankings, with Texas at No. 1, Georgia at No.
2, LSU at No. 7, Ole Miss at No.
8, Texas A&M at No. 9, Alabama at No.
10, Oklahoma at No. 24 and Missouri at No. 20.
Tennessee is also in the mix at No. 15.
That gives the league five teams in the top 10 and nine in the top 25.
Georgia improved to 2-0 after overwhelming Western Kentucky 70-20 in Athens in Week 2. The Bulldogs got out fast again and had the game well in hand early, pulling many of the starters midway through the second quarter. The weather was less than ideal, and the game included six turnovers, two of them by Georgia, but the Bulldogs still managed to get a lot of players meaningful snaps for the second straight week.
"Yes, I always like to thank the fans for buying in and joining in on the white out," Smart said, following the win. "I thought we had a good turnout, especially considering we had some inclement weather headed our way and a lot of doubt in the weather.
But it turned out good. It was good for us to have to play in that environment in terms of rain and getting wet.
It's hard to simulate that. We didn't get many practices this fall camp in it, and it kind of showed.
"But I was proud of the guys. Started fast, and gotta keep improving.
That was the theme of the week. I did think that we got to improve in a lot of areas, and then we had some guys finish the game kind of sloppy that showed they weren't quite ready.
But the fact they got an opportunity to go out there. I think we played more people in the second half than we've ever played before.
"So they've gotta get better if we're gonna have to put them in a game in a competitive situation. On to the SEC league now, and it's just a different league.
You play this league on the road over the years that I have and coached, it's a different environment. Every game is really hard - especially on the road, especially the first one.
So with that, we'll be focusing on Arkansas moving forward."
Georgia’s next test comes on the road against Arkansas on Sat. Sept.

There is still plenty of time left in the cycle, with roughly three months before recruiting starts to move again in earnest, and the race remains far from settled.
