Alabama may be rolling, but the injury report still has a few important names hanging over Week 6.
Kalen DeBoer said Monday that the Crimson Tide are optimistic about getting starting right tackle Jayvin James back against Georgia. James left the South Carolina game two weeks ago, and his possible return would be a major lift with the Bulldogs bringing one of the best defensive lines in college football.
“Jayvin, we’re optimistic that he can return this week,” DeBoer said. “We’ll see as the week goes on.”
DeBoer also addressed two other players with pass-rush upside. Desmond Umeozulu is still working his way back, but likely needs a couple more weeks. Justin Hill is expected to return this season, though not likely in time for Georgia.

- Justin Hill: "He'll be back this season, too, but more than likely not this week."

Another injury situation remains more distant. Five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds has been sidelined since breaking his foot in August, and DeBoer said he is hopeful Edmonds can come back at some point, but he is not close right now.
Mike Rodak reported that DeBoer said Edmonds will be "out for quite a while." There is still a chance he could return during the regular season.

Even with those absences, Alabama looks like a team built to contend for the College Football Playoff. The meeting with Georgia should tell a lot more about just how high this group’s ceiling really is.

Georgia Alabama Suddenly Feels Bigger After A Surprising Betting Shift
Georgia has rolled through its first five games of the 2026 season, handling Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Arkansas while setting up one of the marquee tests on the schedule: a road trip to Alabama. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, and the matchup already carries the feel of a game that can reshape the SEC picture before the middle of the season.
Kirby Smarts remarks after the Vanderbilt win fit the mood around the Bulldogs, with the coach stressing how physical SEC football gets and praising quarterback Gunner Stockton for the way he has handled the load. Georgia has built momentum, but a trip to Tuscaloosa is where the conversation usually changes, and this one now feels even bigger with the way the market and the matchup have started to tilt. Georgias Week 5 Review Raised A Real Question About This Offense
SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic spent part of the week taking a close look across the SEC after Week 5, and Georgias offense ended up in the conversation for reasons that should matter to Bulldogs fans. In a detailed breakdown of 13 league teams, Cubelic used social media to sift through what stood out from the latest slate, from Alabamas road win at Mississippi State to Auburns loss to Tennessee, Floridas defeat at Missouri and Kentuckys overtime escape at South Carolina.
For Georgia, the review naturally sharpened the focus on where this offense is headed next. Week 5 did not just add another result to the ledger, it left a bigger question hanging over how consistent the unit can be against better competition. Cubelics film-based notes pointed to strengths and weaknesses around the league, and Georgias place in that larger picture suggests the Bulldogs are still searching for the kind of offensive rhythm that turns a good team into a fully settled one. Georgia Fans Just Got A New Look At Rising In-State Talent
Georgias high school football slate delivered another reminder of how much talent keeps bubbling up across the state. Newton came away with a last-minute win over Westlake, while Cartersville rolled past Cass 50-0, and the rest of the Friday action offered plenty of scoreboard watching for fans tracking the next wave of prospects. For Georgia supporters, it was the kind of night that reinforces why in-state recruiting matters so much.
The weekend also brought a broader look at where teams stand, with rankings, recent results and a full slate of upcoming matchups helping frame the early-season picture. With so many programs across the state already testing themselves, the next few weeks should keep offering the Bulldogs plenty to monitor, especially with more head-to-head chances for rising talent to make its case.
