Georgia heads into its SEC opener on a full head of steam, but Saturday’s trip to Fayetteville brings a different kind of test. The No.
2 Bulldogs will face Arkansas on Sept. 19 at noon ET at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, with ABC carrying the game.
Georgia is 2-0 after pounding Western Kentucky 70-20, while Arkansas sits at 1-1 after getting handled by then-No. 20 Utah, 43-10.
The Bulldogs have been the country’s highest-scoring team so far at 66.5 points per game, though that number comes with a caveat: the defenses they’ve faced haven’t exactly been elite. Miami is right behind them at 61.0 points per game, and Florida sits at 59.5, though the Hurricanes have at least already seen another power-conference opponent in Stanford.
The betting line reflects Georgia’s early-season dominance. The Bulldogs are listed as 24½-point favorites, with the over/under set at 54 ½ points.
Arkansas’ quarterback situation remains a central storyline. KJ Jackson ranks 16th in the SEC and 114th nationally in both passing efficiency, at 113.0, and completion percentage, at 55.1%.
He has thrown three touchdown passes and two interceptions. Coach Ryan Silverfield said Saturday night that he plans to stay with Jackson over AJ Hill for now.
"Right now, I probably got to stick with KJ. I made that decision.
Obviously I got to go back and watch the film. But there’s a reason why we chose KJ to be the quarterback.
Now, we got to be better in all facets. He has to be better."
Injuries are worth watching on the Georgia side. Defensive back Tyriq Green left Saturday’s win late with what looked like a leg injury, though Kirby Smart didn’t have an update afterward.
Wide receiver Thomas Blackshear sat out against Western Kentucky because of a wrist injury, and backup outside linebacker Chase Linton has missed both games with a lower leg injury. Smart said last week that Linton is "week to week."
Georgia’s weekly press conference is back on Monday this week, and Silverfield is also scheduled to speak Monday.
Arkansas’ loss at Utah offered a blunt snapshot of where the Razorbacks stand right now. They were down 43-3 in the fourth quarter, gave up 301 passing yards and allowed touchdowns on all six Utah trips into the red zone.
Even in a lopsided win over Western Kentucky, Georgia found a little more to nitpick in the second half, including a fourth quarter it lost 14-7. Kirby Smart should have plenty to point to as his team turns from nonconference cruise control into conference play.

With roughly three months left before the recruiting cycle moves deeper into focus, Georgias push is enough to keep this one on the radar, even if the Buckeyes still have the edge for now.
