Georgia’s 2027 recruiting class just took its first hit.
Wide receiver Gavin Honore, a 3-star prospect out of Bishop Gorman (NV), announced Thursday that he’s backing off his verbal commitment to the Bulldogs and reopening his recruitment. The 5-foot-10, 170-pounder shared the news on social media, citing “careful consideration and much prayer” in his decision.
Honore, rated the No. 4 overall prospect in Nevada and the No. 70 wide receiver nationally per the 247Sports Composite, originally committed to Georgia back in June 2025. At the time, he was still suiting up for powerhouse Mater Dei in California and had just wrapped up a multi-day camp in Athens that clearly made an impression.
But as is often the case in the recruiting world-especially with underclassmen-things change. Since his commitment, Honore has continued to draw attention from other programs.
He’s picked up offers from Colorado, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky, and also made an unofficial visit to Texas. That growing interest, combined with his move to Bishop Gorman, may have opened the door for a reset in his recruitment.
This decommitment leaves Georgia with five pledges in the 2027 class: running backs Kemon Spell and Noah Parker, wide receiver Aden Starling, offensive tackle Kelsey Adams, and cornerback Donte Wright. Despite the loss of Honore, the Bulldogs still hold the No. 7 spot in the national team rankings for the class, according to 247Sports.
Georgia’s on-field product continues to speak for itself. The Bulldogs are coming off a 12-2 season that included an SEC title and a trip to the College Football Playoff.
Although their run ended with a loss to Ole Miss in the CFP quarterfinals, Kirby Smart’s program remains one of the premier destinations in college football. They’ll open the 2026 season at home against Tennessee State on September 5.
As for Honore, his recruitment is back on the board-and with his speed, route-running, and ability to create separation, you can bet more schools will be dialing in.
