Georgia Linked to Top Quarterback as Curtis Replacement Search Heats Up

With Georgia urgently searching for a new quarterback, all eyes are on an emerging West Coast transfer who could be Kirby Smarts next big get.

Georgia Eyes Oregon Transfer Bryson Beaver as Potential QB Addition

With Jared Curtis flipping his commitment to Vanderbilt, Georgia found itself back at square one in the quarterback department for the 2026 class. That’s not a place Kirby Smart and his staff are used to being - especially when it comes to securing top-tier talent under center.

But rather than scramble for a late high school recruit, Georgia is turning its attention to the Transfer Portal. And it looks like they may have zeroed in on their guy.

According to a prediction from On3’s Pete Nakos, former Oregon quarterback Bryson Beaver is expected to land in Athens.

Beaver, a 6’3” signal-caller from Murrieta, California, was ranked as the No. 194 overall prospect and the No. 13 quarterback in the 2025 class. He’s also currently rated as the No. 16 quarterback in the entire Transfer Portal - a clear indication of his upside and potential at the next level.

His journey to this point has taken a few unexpected turns. Beaver had already signed with Oregon and enrolled at the university on January 5.

But just days later, the Ducks’ quarterback room underwent a major shake-up. Dante Moore, who was widely projected to be a top pick in this summer’s NFL Draft, announced he would return to Eugene for another season.

That in itself wasn’t necessarily a deal-breaker for Beaver - most didn’t expect him to start right away anyway. But what came next likely changed the equation.

Oregon added Nebraska transfer Dylan Raiola, a move that sent a clear message about the future of the position in Eugene. Raiola is expected to sit a year and then take the reins in 2027. That timeline would’ve pushed Beaver further down the depth chart, potentially delaying - or derailing - his path to meaningful playing time.

For a young quarterback looking to develop and compete, that’s a tough pill to swallow.

Georgia, meanwhile, is in need of a quarterback with starter-level potential, and Beaver fits the bill. While he hasn’t officially entered the Transfer Portal just yet, the expectation is that it’s coming - and Georgia appears ready to act quickly once he does.

Beaver may not carry the same recruiting pedigree as Curtis, but he’s not far off. He was ranked the No. 12 quarterback in the 2026 class and brings a solid blend of size, athleticism, and arm talent. For Georgia, he represents a high-upside option who can help stabilize the quarterback depth chart after a surprising shake-up.

The Bulldogs have built a reputation for developing elite talent and competing for national titles year in and year out. If Beaver does make the move to Athens, he’ll be walking into a program that knows how to win - and knows how to prepare quarterbacks for the next level.

This recruitment isn’t over just yet. But if the predictions hold true, Georgia could be adding a key piece to its future at quarterback - one that may not have been in the cards just a few weeks ago.
