Georgia Lands 5-Star QB After Missing Out on Top Prospect Last Year

Georgia may have lost a top recruit, but a new five-star quarterback target could turn the tide in their favor.

Sometimes, what looks like a recruiting loss ends up opening the door to something even bigger. That’s exactly where Georgia finds itself right now.

When five-star quarterback Jared Curtis flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt, it stung. Curtis is a big-time talent, and there’s no question Georgia would’ve loved to have him in Athens. But in the ever-evolving world of college football recruiting, one door closing often means another one opens-and in this case, it may have opened to the No. 1 quarterback in the 2027 class.

Enter Elijah Haven.

The five-star QB out of Louisiana just narrowed his list to four schools: Georgia, Alabama, Florida, and Auburn. And while Alabama might be the early favorite, the Bulldogs are very much in this race-and that’s a development worth paying attention to.

Haven is a 6'5", 215-pound signal caller who put up video game numbers this past season: 4,714 total yards and 73 touchdowns. Yes, you read that right-73 touchdowns.

That’s a new state record in Louisiana, and a pretty clear indicator of just how special this kid is. According to Rivals and 247Sports, he’s not just the No. 1 quarterback in the 2027 class-he’s also the No. 2 overall player in the country and the top-ranked prospect in Louisiana.

Georgia has been on Haven’s radar for a while, but with Curtis previously set to lead the Bulldogs’ future quarterback room, it was hard to envision Haven wanting to follow in behind another five-star. Now, with Curtis headed elsewhere, the path is much clearer for Haven to see himself as the guy in Athens.

Of course, Alabama is still considered the frontrunner, with a crystal ball prediction already leaning in the Crimson Tide’s favor. But there’s plenty of time left in this recruitment cycle, and Georgia is far from out of it. The Bulldogs have a strong track record of developing quarterbacks, and with their national profile, they’re always going to be in the mix for elite talent.

And it’s not like Georgia is lacking in quarterback firepower elsewhere. The Bulldogs are trending positively for four-star 2026 QB Bryson Beaver, who’s been predicted to commit to Georgia.

On top of that, they’ve already locked in a commitment from Jayden Wade-the No. 1 quarterback in the 2028 class. That’s a strong pipeline shaping up in Athens.

But Haven would be the crown jewel. He’s the kind of quarterback who can define a recruiting class, and potentially, a program’s future.

While it might not seem like Georgia is the favorite right now, the mutual interest is real. And in recruiting, that’s often all you need to stay in the hunt.

So yes, losing Jared Curtis was a blow. But if that loss opens the door to Elijah Haven, Georgia fans might end up looking back at this moment not as a setback-but as a turning point.
