Georgia’s rise comes after a dominant opener, a 63-3 win over Tennessee State in the heat at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs moved up to No. 2 after Oregon ran into trouble against Boise State, and now Georgia gets a chance to keep rolling at home against Western Kentucky. They’ll also be wearing the all white uniform.
Michigan fell out of the rankings, while Virginia entered the poll as a newcomer.
There’s one ranked showdown on the Week 2 slate: No. 1 Ohio State at No. 4 Texas.
Texas is listed as a 1.5-point favorite at home, but the Buckeyes are being picked here to leave Austin with the win. That would also bring back the familiar argument about whether the SEC has slipped a step, though the view here is that it hasn’t.
