Georgia Just Sent A Bigger Message Than Beating Florida

Despite fierce competition, Georgia leaps to the No. 2 spot in the Coaches Poll following a decisive victory over Florida.

Georgia’s climb in the Week 10 Coaches Poll came on the heels of a clean, convincing answer to its first loss.

Fresh off a 27-8 neutral-site win over Florida, the Bulldogs jumped from No. 3 to No. 2 in the updated AFCA Football Coaches’ Poll. Miami stayed at No. 1 and pulled in 68 first-place votes, while Georgia collected four. Kentucky got the other first-place vote.

The top of the poll shuffled in a few other spots, too. Ohio State slid eight places to No.

10, USC moved up eight spots to No. 17 and SMU dropped eight spots to No. 24.

Georgia now turns to a stretch that will tell plenty about where it stands. The Bulldogs have No.

19 Missouri at home and No. 12 Ole Miss on the road next on the schedule.

The ranking bump reflects what Georgia did Saturday in Atlanta, where it handled Florida from start to finish in the first rivalry game played there. The Bulldogs built a 24-0 lead by halftime, forced four turnovers and won their sixth straight in the series.

Nate Frazier and Bo Walker each punched in 1-yard touchdowns, and Georgia’s defense kept stacking stops and takeaways. Ellis Robinson IV and Demello Jones picked off Aaron Philo, and after the second interception Florida turned to Tramell Jones Jr. at quarterback. Then came the game’s biggest swing with 29 seconds left in the first half: Quintavius Johnson strip-sacked Jones, Chris Cole scooped it up and raced 66 yards for a touchdown.

Florida finally got on the board in the fourth quarter after a Talyn Taylor fumble, but Georgia closed the door again when Braylon Conley intercepted a pass in the end zone to end another Gators threat.

Gunner Stockton was steady, if not flashy, going 13 of 23 for 101 yards with no interceptions. He also added 45 rushing yards on 12 carries, a sharp response two weeks after his three-turnover day against Auburn. Georgia controlled the line of scrimmage, outrushing Florida 217-48, and Cole led the way defensively with nine tackles and a sack.

Afterward, Kirby Smart pointed to the atmosphere and the work that went into the week.

"I appreciate our fan base and really the atmosphere that was created today," Kirby Smart said after the win. "We have an awesome atmosphere, a great theme to play in.

You know, next year, I guess we'll be playing in a no spot, but this one's good because it's been good to us in terms of the atmosphere created. I did think that both fan bases had a great turnout.

"I'm proud of the way our guys played, fought. You know, we left a lot out there that we desired.

Think we can play obviously a lot better offensively. But we did what we had to do, and we avoided turnovers for the most part and we got turnovers.

The Dawgs didn't beat the Dawgs today. The Gators helped us with some of the turnovers they had.

"But really proud of the way our guys worked during the off week. I thought we had a really good off week, a good week of planning.

And then to execute the plan during the week, it paid off for us. But overall, a lot of credit goes to the players for their work ethic and the coaching staff did a great job of their game plans."

Georgia Now Has A Bigger Concern Than Beating Florida

Ellis Robinson IV gave Georgia plenty to feel good about before the injury scare in Jacksonville, picking off a pass and adding tackles in the rivalry game against Florida before leaving in the third quarter with a lower-leg issue. Kirby Smart said Robinsons knee tightened up, and at the time there was no confirmed structural damage, but the cornerback did not return, leaving the Bulldogs to sort through both the result of the game and a developing concern in the secondary.

For a defense that has leaned on Robinsons playmaking, the bigger question now is how quickly Georgia can get clarity on his status for the stretch ahead. His availability for upcoming games is uncertain, and for a team with bigger goals than one rivalry win, any lingering issue with a key defensive back is the kind of problem that can ripple beyond a single afternoon. Gunner Stockton Made One Thing Clear After Georgia Beat Florida

Gunner Stockton came away from Georgias win over Florida with the kind of measured postgame tone that usually plays well in a locker room. He praised the defense for setting the standard, acknowledged that the offense had its rough patches, and pointed to the atmosphere around the rivalry game as part of what made the day feel bigger than a normal Saturday. Even in victory, Stockton kept the focus on the details, including specific plays and the work of his teammates.

For Georgia, that mindset matters as much as the result itself. The Bulldogs got the win they wanted, but Stockton made clear there is still room to clean things up and keep pushing forward, which is often the message that carries most weight in November. A rivalry victory can cover up a lot for a week, but his comments suggested the goal inside the building is to treat it as a checkpoint, not a finish line. [Read more 🡒]

Eric Singleton Just Gave Georgia Fans One More Reason To Remember Him

Eric Singleton has spent plenty of time on the wrong side of Georgia, and not just once. The wide receiver has taken four losses to the Bulldogs while suiting up for three different rivals, first at Georgia Tech, then Auburn and Florida, which already made him a familiar name around these parts before his latest comments added another layer to the story.

During a recent press conference, Singleton made a remark about Georgia that drew attention quickly enough for Florida to remove it from the official transcript. It has only added to the intrigue around his future, too, with speculation growing about whether he could get an extra year of eligibility and what that might mean if he ends up looking for another transfer landing spot.
