Georgia Just Got A Big Resume Boost Beyond Reaching No. 2

Defeating Florida not only boosted Georgia's AP Poll position but also strengthened their season resume with multiple ranked wins.

Georgia’s move to No. 2 in the Week 9 AP Poll came with the obvious boost from its 27-8 win over Florida, but the bigger win for the Bulldogs’ résumé might be what happened elsewhere in the rankings.

Ranked victories are often the cleanest way for teams to separate from the pack, especially when records start to blur together. Georgia already has two ranked wins this season, and the key for that number was Florida staying inside the top 25 despite the loss in Jacksonville.

The Gators, who were No. 17 last week, slipped only to No. 25 after the 19-point defeat. At 5-3 with three losses, they could have fallen out entirely, but instead they remained ranked and kept Georgia’s win over them from losing value.

Florida’s placement is easier to understand when you look at what it has already done. The Gators beat Texas on the road with their backup quarterback right before facing Georgia, and earlier in the season they knocked off Ole Miss at home. Texas is No. 10 in this week’s poll, while Ole Miss sits at No. 12, giving Florida a pair of wins that clearly carried weight with the voters.

That matters for Georgia because it preserves the Bulldogs’ claim to two ranked wins so far.

There’s also a fresh path to another one. Ole Miss and Missouri are next on Georgia’s schedule, and both teams have been ranked all season, so those opportunities were already sitting there.

The newest opening comes later, when Georgia closes its SEC slate against South Carolina on Nov. 21.

South Carolina jumped to No. 23 after its 42-25 win over Oklahoma on Saturday. The Gamecocks are 5-3, but they’ve won three straight after dropping three in a row and falling to 2-3. Along with the Oklahoma victory, they also have ranked wins over Florida and Tennessee.

Georgia’s trip to South Carolina won’t be easy, but the Gamecocks still have Texas A&M and Arkansas coming up, and they likely will be favored in both. If South Carolina keeps winning, Georgia could have another ranked opponent waiting in three weeks. If not, that chance disappears.

For now, though, Georgia has to handle Ole Miss first. If the Bulldogs get through Ole Miss and Missouri, and South Carolina keeps its spot, Georgia could be looking at a fifth ranked win this season.

Georgia Fans Face A Pricey Road Test For Ole Miss

Georgias trip to Oxford is shaping up as one of the more expensive road dates on the schedule, with the Bulldogs set to face Ole Miss at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m. The game will air on ABC, and for fans hoping to make the trek, the early ticket market is already steep, with seats starting at $315 on StubHub, $330.40 on Ticketmaster and $336 on VividSeats.

It will be Georgias second night game of the season and the second-to-last road game on the schedule, which only adds to the appeal for traveling fans looking for a marquee SEC atmosphere. For those weighing the cost, though, this one is already asking for a premium before the Bulldogs even take the field in Oxford. [Read more 🡒]

Ole Miss Just Got A National Title Endorsement Fans Will Notice

A national title conversation around college football quarterbacks always gets attention, and Danny Kanell added another layer to it by naming five teams he believes have signal-callers good enough to win it all. Georgia made the list, as did Miami, USC, Ole Miss and Notre Dame, with Kanell pointing to the kind of quarterback play that can carry a team through the biggest games. For the Bulldogs, it is another reminder that the margin at the top of the sport is often defined by who can handle the pressure under center when the stakes rise.

The Ole Miss mention is the one that will likely stick with fans around the SEC, especially with Kanell highlighting both Gunner Stockton and Trinidad Chambliss as part of the Rebels' quarterback picture. He also singled out Darian Mensah at Miami, CJ Carr at Notre Dame and Jayden Maiava at USC, tying the discussion to performances and the matchups ahead. For Georgia, the takeaway is less about the praise itself and more about the company it keeps, because any list built around national title quarterbacks is really a snapshot of where the sport thinks the real contenders are headed. Mike White Is Already Worried About One Georgia Weakness

Georgias preseason tune-up slate gave Mike White a decent early look at where his team stands heading into the 2026-27 season, and the results were mixed enough to leave a clear priority on the board. The Bulldogs beat Georgia State and Charlotte in exhibition play, then fell narrowly to Clemson, a game that showed some encouraging signs but also reinforced a familiar issue from last season.

Defensive rebounding is already the concern White keeps circling back to as Georgia prepares for its opener against N.C. Central. The staff is counting on help from the incoming transfers and freshmen to tighten that area, and the next stretch of practice will be about turning that emphasis into something more reliable once the games start counting.
