The first College Football Playoff rankings of the season put Georgia in a familiar spot near the top, and the Bulldogs earned it with a 27-8 win over Florida in Atlanta. That victory gave Georgia its sixth straight Cocktail Party win, and the combination of that result plus Ohio State’s loss to USC pushed the Dawgs up to No. 2.
That ranking also sets up a heavyweight trip to Oxford this weekend, where Georgia will face Ole Miss in a top-10 matchup. The Rebels check in at No. 10, making it one of the biggest games on the board in the opening week of the playoff picture.
Georgia’s CFP position comes with strong odds as well. FanDuel has the Bulldogs at -5000 to make the College Football Playoff, trailing only Miami at -10000 in that market. But when it comes to winning the whole thing, Georgia has the best number of any team at +330.
The rest of the rankings around the Bulldogs only add more juice to the week. Miami sits at No. 1, followed by Georgia, Utah, Indiana and Alabama.
Kentucky is No. 6, Texas No.
7, UCLA No. 8, BYU No. 9 and Ole Miss rounds out the top 10.
A loaded slate of ranked games follows, including No. 9 BYU at No.
3 Utah, No. 7 Texas at No.
18 Missouri, No. 5 Alabama at No.
14 LSU, No. 23 Oregon at No.
12 Ohio State, No. 6 Kentucky at No.
13 Tennessee, and No. 1 Miami at No.
11 Notre Dame.
The Georgia-Ole Miss game also comes with an upset pick attached. Georgia is listed as a 3.5-point favorite, but the call here is Ole Miss outright. The pick leans on Trinidad Chambliss and the Rebels to defend home field and hand Georgia a loss, even if the prediction hasn’t landed the last two times it was made.

Georgia Enters A Huge Week With Playoff And Injury Questions
Georgia has reached the point in the season where every update seems to carry extra weight, and this week brings a little of everything. The Bulldogs are two-thirds through both the regular season and SEC play, they just picked up league weekly honors for Chris Cole and Gabe Harris on defense, and the first College Football Playoff rankings are about to drop, with Georgia in position to land near the top of the board.
Kirby Smart used his weekly press conference to touch on injuries, scheduling and the usual late-season roster concerns that start to shape November. Around the program, there was some good news on the hardwood too, with both Georgia basketball teams opening their seasons with wins over NC Central and West Georgia, but football remains the center of attention as the Bulldogs wait to see how healthy they are and where they stand in the playoff race. Kirby Smart Just Framed Georgias Biggest Ole Miss Problem
Kirby Smart spent part of the buildup to Georgias Week 10 matchup zeroing in on the player who can make Ole Miss go: quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. Smart pointed to Chamblisss decision-making, accuracy and athleticism as the traits that make him such a difficult prep for a defense, which is usually the kind of compliment that doubles as a warning. With kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, the Bulldogs know this one is going to demand discipline from the first snap.
For Georgia, the challenge is not just accounting for a quarterback who can hurt a defense in more than one way, but doing it against an Ole Miss offense built to stress opponents quickly. Smarts comments framed the matchup in plain terms: if Chambliss is comfortable and on time, the Rebels become a much tougher problem to solve. That is the tension hanging over this game now, and it is the one Georgia has to answer before the night gets away from it. [Read more 🡒]
Mike White Sounds Early Alarm After Georgias Sloppy Opener
Georgia opened the 2026-27 season with a 78-62 win over North Carolina Central, but the mood afterward sounded more like a team that had escaped than one that had settled in. Mike White, along with Blue Cain and Kanon Catchings, pointed to the same early issues: shaky defense at times, too many turnovers and a general lack of cohesion that made the victory feel less clean than the final score suggested.
The Bulldogs did force 19 turnovers, which gave them a clear edge, but the offensive rhythm never fully clicked and the shooting from beyond the arc was especially uneven. With Presbyterian up next, Georgia already has a short window to sharpen the details and look more like the team White expects than the one that showed up in the opener. [Read more 🡒]
