Andrew Smart spent part of Saturday doing what he could around the Georgia football program, and that included being near one of the biggest recruiting names in the country.
Kirby Smart’s son, who has been around the Bulldogs since his father took over as head coach, was seen helping Gunner Stockton get loose during warmups. He also popped up alongside five-star David Jacobs, the No. 1 overall player in the 2027 recruiting class, who was on campus in Athens for a visit.

That visit mattered because Jacobs is also the No. 1 player in the state of Georgia, making him a major target for the Bulldogs. He committed to Ohio State last December, but Georgia has stayed in touch since then. Saturday was his first trip back to Georgia since that commitment, and while it created some buzz, it still doesn’t sound like an easy flip for the Bulldogs.
According to Matt DeBary of Georgia Bulldogs on SI, the trip may not have shifted things much.
"Sources say this could be a tough flip to pull off," Matt DeBary said via si.com. "Still, getting him back on campus is always important if they continue to make him a priority in this class."
Jacobs has not said much publicly about why he chose Ohio State over Georgia last December. The source material notes that Georgia usually offers smaller NIL deals than some other schools for top prospects, and that may have played a role, though nothing was spelled out by Jacobs himself. Georgia is trying to get back into the mix with less than three months left in his recruitment.
There was also another familiar name on campus: Jacobs’ younger brother, Dawson, a four-star recruit in the 2028 class. The trip appeared to be centered more on Dawson’s relationship with Georgia, even though David’s presence naturally drew the most attention. Still, the Bulldogs clearly want to make progress with both brothers, especially David.
For now, Georgia has a shot, even if it looks like a long one. Recruiting can change fast, and Kirby Smart’s track record gives the Bulldogs a reason to keep pushing.
Jacobs being from Georgia doesn’t hurt either. But with his December decision still looming, there’s plenty of work left to do if Georgia wants to turn a campus visit into a commitment flip.
