Drew Bobo is getting his hands back, and Georgia’s veteran center says that alone changes everything.
After spending the first three weeks dealing with a bulky protective wrap on an injured hand, Bobo said Monday that he’s finally ready to move without it. For a player who has had to adjust his game around the club, the timing feels right with Oklahoma coming to Sanford Stadium at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
“I’m excited to be un-clubbed, the first three weeks (it was) adjusting … I got used to it in camp but it’s still different with how big it is, you can’t really get your hands inside too well,” said Bobo, the Bulldogs fifth-year senior preseason All-American said on Monday.
“But being un-clubbed on Saturday is going to be really fun, just having an opportunity to play a really good defense without the club and have both hands.”
Georgia’s offensive line is about to run into one of the SEC’s most suffocating units. Oklahoma’s defense leads the conference in points allowed per game at 7.7, passing yards allowed per game at 104.3 and third-down defense at 22.5 conversion rate. Bobo called the Sooners’ front “a really athletic group” and “a really talented group,” and pointed to their depth and versatility.
“They play a lot of guys and they’re pretty multiple with what they do.”
Bobo hasn’t faced this Oklahoma team before, but he’s been around enough elite defenders to know what kind of challenge is waiting. He mentioned preseason All-American defensive tackle David Stone and preseason All-SEC defensive end Taylor Wein, then traced some of his own growth back to his scout-team days.
“I really enjoyed my time on scout team, just being able to play all those guys, it made me the player I am today and that’s the time I improved the most in my time here at Georgia was having a few years on scout team,” Bobo said.
“I think my freshman year it was like Jalen Carter … Zion Logue, Nazir Stackhouse, and I played all (offensive line) positions on scout team because you never now what could happen so it was having to block Nolan Smith on the edge, and Jalon Walker was really hard.”
That development hasn’t gone unnoticed inside the program. Kirby Smart, who has known Drew Bobo his whole life because of his connection to Bobo’s father, Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, said the center’s grind on scout team helped shape him.
“People don’t realize how many years he spent down there on scout team, taking reps and just going against older D-linemen and improving,” Smart said on Monday.
“Effort and toughness is what Drew embodies, he’s a captain …. You won’t find a play that he doesn’t cover down.
He’s by the pile, he’s knocking people off the pile. I don’t know what it is, but he has elite stamina to run and play and just keep playing.
He can play every snap and not get tired.”
Georgia linebacker Justin Williams backed that up with his own view from practice, calling Bobo “one of the toughest people I’ve met in my life.”
“Drew is one of the toughest people I’ve met in my life,” Williams said. “I feel he’s faced a lot of adversity in his life, whether that’s through injury or people always talking about him when he was coming up as a walk-on, and all the challenges he’s faced and he’s gone through that and accepted the challenge.
“I feel Drew, every day, he comes ready to play and he takes on the role of being a leader. He does everthing Coach Smart asks him to do and he’s a tough son of a gun, so going against him every day in practice is a hard task.”

The SEC has set up Georgias Week 5 trip to Vanderbilt for an early start, with the Bulldogs and Commodores slated for either noon or 12:45 p.m. ET rather than a night kickoff. It is a jarring assignment for a game that already has some extra juice, especially with both teams unbeaten at 3-0 and the conference choosing to put Arkansas at Texas A&M and McNeese State at LSU into the night windows instead.

Georgia Still Has One Clear Issue Despite Another Comfortable Win
Another Saturday brought another comfortable result for Georgia, but the wider SEC picture kept shifting around the Bulldogs anyway. Ole Miss 32-24 win over LSU at Vaught Hemingway Stadium pushed the Rebels up to No. 4 in the AP Top 25, and Trinidad Chambliss turned in the kind of performance that changes the conversation around a league in which Georgia remains one of the standard-bearers.
For Georgia, the ranking movement only sharpened the focus on what still needs cleaning up, even after another routine victory. The Bulldogs are still very much in the mix with Texas, Kentucky and Tennessee in the leagues weekly churn, but the latest results made it clear that comfortable wins alone do not erase the one issue that continues to linger in the background. Georgia Just Got The Nate Frazier News Fans Needed
Nate Fraziers brief scare against Arkansas looks like just that, a scare. Kirby Smart said the Georgia running back suffered a minor injury in that game but is expected to be available for the Bulldogs upcoming matchup with Oklahoma, a welcome bit of news as the schedule starts to tighten up.
Georgia also appears to be trending in the right direction elsewhere on the depth chart. Linebacker Chase Linton, defensive back Tyriq Green and wide receiver Isiah Canion are all progressing well from injuries and are expected back soon, though it remains unclear whether any of them will be ready for Oklahoma.
