Georgia has spent the first month of the season flattening everything in its path, and now the Bulldogs get a Week 5 matchup that carries a little extra edge. Vanderbilt comes to Athens, and with it comes Georgia’s first real shot at revenge this season.
That part matters even if the game itself looks lopsided on paper. Georgia is 4-0 after hammering Oklahoma 41-13 on Saturday, its fourth straight win by at least four touchdowns. The Bulldogs have been rolling, and this one sets up like another one of those days where the margin grows fast.
But there’s a wrinkle here beyond the scoreboard. Vanderbilt quarterback Jared Curtis gives Georgia a chance to settle a recruiting score.
Curtis was a longtime Georgia commit during the 2026 recruiting cycle before flipping to Vanderbilt right before signing day. That left Georgia without a quarterback in the 2026 class, and while the Bulldogs have clearly moved on, the matchup still gives them a chance to make the point in uniform.
Curtis may need to make the third start of his career if he gets the nod again. His first came in Week 3 against NC State, when he went 20 of 34 for 277 yards and three touchdowns, but also threw two interceptions. Vanderbilt still needed a miracle defensive touchdown at the end to escape with the win.
Last week at Auburn, Curtis had a rougher outing. He completed 22 of 33 passes for 199 yards with one interception and no touchdowns in a 21-15 loss.
Now he’d be walking into Sanford Stadium against a Georgia team that hasn’t really been tested yet. Curtis hasn’t seen anything like this in his young career, and that’s exactly the kind of setting Georgia will want to put in front of him.
The numbers say this should be straightforward. DraftKings Sportsbook has Georgia as a 24.5-point favorite, and that still feels almost conservative considering the Bulldogs have won every game this season by at least 28 points. Vegas is clearly expecting another one-sided finish.
Georgia does have a tougher trip to Alabama waiting in two weeks, and that one should bring a much stiffer challenge. For now, though, the Bulldogs get Vanderbilt at home, a game that looks manageable and offers a chance to turn a routine win into something a little sweeter.
