Nick Chubb is getting the kind of sendoff that fits the career he built in Cleveland.
After announcing his retirement from football in August, the former Browns running back has returned to the place where he spent seven of his eight NFL seasons. Chubb’s final year came with the Texans in Houston, but this week Cleveland signed him to a one-day deal so he could retire as a Brown, the way he wanted.

The Browns will honor Chubb again Sunday during the home opener against the Panthers, but the celebration has already been underway all week.

Cleveland even gave Chubb the chance to end a practice this week after the team highlighted his career in front of everyone in the building.

Chubb’s football resume was already sealed long before this farewell tour. At Georgia, he piled up nearly 4,800 rushing yards and 44 touchdowns before the Browns took him 35th overall in the 2018 NFL Draft. He wasted no time making an impact in the league, missing a 1,000-yard season as a rookie by just four yards before topping that mark in each of the next four years.
His biggest NFL season came in 2022, when he rushed for 1,525 yards. By the end of his career, he had finished with just shy of 7,400 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns.
But the numbers only tell part of the story. Chubb’s standing in Georgia and Cleveland has always come from more than production.
He was the kind of teammate, coach favorite and community presence that sticks with people. He cared about every single teammate, coach and member of both the Georgia football program and Browns organization.
He also cared about his community and the fans as he always went out of his way to be as involved with their communities as much as he could.
Even when injuries piled up in the final stretch of his career, that never changed the way he carried himself. He remained the same player and the same person, and that’s a big part of why Cleveland brought him back for this final chapter.
Chubb’s playing days are over, but his impact will linger in Georgia and Cleveland for a long time.
