Georgia Fans Suddenly Have Two Huge Reasons To Watch This Week

As Georgia Bulldogs earn a basketball victory, the buzz around Glenn Schumann's potential move to Florida State intensifies amidst scheduling uncertainties for a prime-time football match.

Georgia’s football news cycle took a sharp turn Sunday, and it wasn’t because of anything happening on the field in Athens.

Within hours of Florida State firing head coach Mike Norvell, Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann was already being mentioned as a top candidate for the Seminoles’ opening. Schumann has spent a decade working under Kirby Smart and has been the architect behind Georgia’s defense for years, which makes him a natural name to surface when a major job comes open.

There are reasons the fit makes sense beyond the résumé. Schumann has family ties to Florida State and was born less than 100 miles from campus. On top of that, Florida State’s financial situation after firing Norvell makes a first-time head coach a more realistic hire, and Schumann would fit that profile.

Nothing is settled yet, and Florida State has not revealed who it is targeting. Still, the possibility is there, and while Georgia would prefer to keep Schumann in Athens, the Seminoles would be a logical landing spot if he is ready to take on his first head coaching job.

Back in Sanford Stadium, Georgia is also running out of chances to finally get a home night game this season.

The Bulldogs have not played a night game at home yet, and with only two home games left, the opportunities are shrinking fast. Their best remaining shot comes next week against Missouri, but even that one is not locked in.

The SEC has released game times for that week, but Georgia’s kickoff has not been set. Georgia and Missouri will play on ABC at either 3:30 or 7:30 p.m.

EST, with the network waiting to make its final decision based on how this weekend’s games unfold. If Georgia and Missouri both win, that helps their case.

The other game in play for those ABC windows is Texas vs LSU, so there is a real chance Georgia never gets a home night game at all this year.

On the hardwood, Georgia men’s basketball got its season started the right way Monday night.

The Bulldogs opened their 2026-27 campaign at home against North Carolina Central and handled business with a 78-62 win. Georgia entered as the heavy favorite and played like it, with Kanon Catchings leading the way with 16 points and Blue Cain adding 15.

Georgia has reached the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons, but both trips ended in first-round exits. This year’s goal is to get back there again - and take the next step once they arrive.

Georgia Enters A Huge Week With Playoff And Injury Questions

Georgia has reached the point in the season where every update seems to carry extra weight, and this week brings a little of everything. The Bulldogs are two-thirds through both the regular season and SEC play, they just picked up league weekly honors for Chris Cole and Gabe Harris on defense, and the first College Football Playoff rankings are about to drop, with Georgia in position to land near the top of the board.

Kirby Smart used his weekly press conference to touch on injuries, scheduling and the usual late-season roster concerns that start to shape November. Around the program, there was some good news on the hardwood too, with both Georgia basketball teams opening their seasons with wins over NC Central and West Georgia, but football remains the center of attention as the Bulldogs wait to see how healthy they are and where they stand in the playoff race. Kirby Smart Just Framed Georgias Biggest Ole Miss Problem

Kirby Smart spent part of the buildup to Georgias Week 10 matchup zeroing in on the player who can make Ole Miss go: quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. Smart pointed to Chamblisss decision-making, accuracy and athleticism as the traits that make him such a difficult prep for a defense, which is usually the kind of compliment that doubles as a warning. With kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC, the Bulldogs know this one is going to demand discipline from the first snap.

For Georgia, the challenge is not just accounting for a quarterback who can hurt a defense in more than one way, but doing it against an Ole Miss offense built to stress opponents quickly. Smarts comments framed the matchup in plain terms: if Chambliss is comfortable and on time, the Rebels become a much tougher problem to solve. That is the tension hanging over this game now, and it is the one Georgia has to answer before the night gets away from it. [Read more 🡒]

Mike White Sounds Early Alarm After Georgias Sloppy Opener

Georgia opened the 2026-27 season with a 78-62 win over North Carolina Central, but the mood afterward sounded more like a team that had escaped than one that had settled in. Mike White, along with Blue Cain and Kanon Catchings, pointed to the same early issues: shaky defense at times, too many turnovers and a general lack of cohesion that made the victory feel less clean than the final score suggested.

The Bulldogs did force 19 turnovers, which gave them a clear edge, but the offensive rhythm never fully clicked and the shooting from beyond the arc was especially uneven. With Presbyterian up next, Georgia already has a short window to sharpen the details and look more like the team White expects than the one that showed up in the opener. [Read more 🡒]
