Five-star quarterback Jayden Wade’s hold on the No. 1 spot in the 2028 class took a hit, and it came from the place that matters most in the composite race: Rivals.
Wade has been committed to Georgia since last November, and despite rumors that he has looked around at other schools, he has stayed locked in with the Bulldogs. At the time of his commitment, he was the nation’s top quarterback. That status has been under pressure ever since, with fellow five-star Christopher Vargas right on his heels.
Now Vargas has moved ahead of Wade as the No. 1 quarterback in the country, and Rivals is the reason Wade slipped in the 247Sports composite rankings.
The odd part is that not every service sees it that way. 247Sports still has Wade as the top quarterback and the No. 2 player overall.
ESPN also keeps him at No. 1 among quarterbacks and No. 4 nationally. But Rivals has him all the way down at No. 33 overall and No. 3 among quarterbacks in the 2028 class, which drags him to No. 2 in the composite.
Georgia won’t complain about landing the No. 33 player in the country, but the gap between Rivals and the other major services is hard to ignore. Right now, Rivals looks like the outlier.
There’s also a bigger concern hanging over this recruitment. Georgia has had a rough run with elite quarterbacks in recent years, and the pattern has not been kind to the Bulldogs.
Jared Curtis, in the 2026 class, decommitted, recommitted, and then flipped to Vanderbilt just days before signing day. Two years earlier, Dylan Raiola was committed to Georgia before switching to Nebraska right before signing day as well.
That history is enough to make any Georgia fan uneasy about Wade, even if he’s his own player and his own recruitment. Kirby Smart has already seen what can happen when a top quarterback starts to wobble late.
And Wade matters. If Georgia keeps him, he has the kind of talent that can alter where the program is headed and help push the Bulldogs from College Football Playoff frustration into legitimate national title contention.
He still has a year and a half before he can sign with Georgia and officially end the process. That leaves plenty of time for other schools to keep pushing, which is exactly why Smart has to find a way to hold this one together.

Georgia Has Elite Offensive Line Talent But One Major Question Lingers
Georgias offensive line still looks loaded on paper, even after losing two starters and watching left tackle Monroe Freeling head to the Carolina Panthers. Drew Bobo and Earnest Greene give the Bulldogs a veteran core, while sophomores Dontrell Glover and Juan Gaston are expected to be part of the next wave of contributors. Add in the arrival of new offensive line coach Phil Rauscher, and there is no shortage of talent or experience for Georgia to work with as it shapes the front for the coming season.
The bigger issue is not whether the Bulldogs have bodies, but how quickly the group can settle into the right combination. Bobos recovery from last seasons foot injury remains a central concern, and Georgia has already had to start sorting through replacements and new roles up front. With Glover among the players expected to take on more responsibility and the staff adjusting to Rauschers voice in the room, the line has plenty of upside, but one of its most important answers is still waiting to be found. Georgia Fans Are Stuck Waiting On One Massive In-State DB Decision
Georgias 2027 recruiting board at defensive back is still pretty bare, with four-star safety Adryan Cole standing as the only commitment in the secondary so far. That makes the next move in-state prospect Seth Williams even more important for the Bulldogs, especially with the top uncommitted safety set to make his choice later this month after pushing back his original announcement.
Williams is now expected to decide on July 31, giving Georgia a little more time to stay in the mix as the race narrows. Clemson has been viewed as the team to beat, but the delay has kept the door open and turned this into one of those recruiting waits that can shape how a class feels before it even gets off the ground.
