Auburn coach Alex Golesh didn’t hide his respect for Georgia this week as the Tigers prepare to head to Athens for the latest chapter of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.
Georgia, Golesh said, looks every bit like the No. 1 team in the country on offense. He pointed first to quarterback Gunner Stockton, who is coming off a strong showing in the Bulldogs’ 20-17 win over Alabama, when he went 18-22 for just under 250 passing yards and two total touchdowns.
“Number one team in the country, and you watch it all three phases, they certainly look that way offensively, man. The quarterback is a really, really good player.
Makes a lot of things go. He doesn't make a ton of mistakes.
You could tell he's a veteran guy who's played in the system, that gets the ball to the right places, can move it with his feet, can escape.”
Golesh also praised Stockton’s growth as a runner, adding, “He can create with his feet has only gotten better in that regard,” and singled out Georgia’s depth around him. He called the running back group deep, the offensive line physical, and the tight end room “a phenomenal room with four guys” who all bring different skill sets.
That tight end group was on full display against Alabama, with Stockton leaning on Lawson Luckie, Jaden Reddell, Ethan Barbour, and even Elyiss Williams in key moments.
Golesh said Georgia’s receivers help make the whole thing hum, too.
“The receivers, they do a really good job of creating things down the field for those guys. They use them in the short quick game.
On the perimeter and as an extension of their run game. So a really complete offense.
And they do a really good job knowing who they are. And the quarterback operates really well.”
He then turned to the Bulldogs’ offensive line, saying it has done a strong job both in protection and in opening lanes in the run game.
“I think the offensive line has done a really, really good job of one, protecting them, two, creating a really physical advantage in the run game all year. Defensively, it's kind of a mirror image. They’re really big, really stout, really physical.”
The numbers back up that assessment. Georgia enters the week ranked 10th nationally in total defense, allowing 261 yards per game, and it has been especially sharp against the run, giving up just 75 rushing yards per game. The Bulldogs also rank 10th in scoring defense at 14 points allowed per game.
Golesh said Georgia’s secondary is another major problem for opposing offenses, with both corners able to cover and a scheme that changes from week to week.
“Then in the back end, that secondary is real. Both corners can really cover.
They do a really good job of taking what you do away in a lot of really different ways. They’re really good job schematically, week to week, of finding ways to affect the quarterback.
The blitz packages are unique. And then the personnel is really, really good.
"So they're not just a ton of holes that you can expose. We got to play physical.
As you do every week in this league, you can't turn the football over. You've got to maximize possessions.
But an impressive team that’s extremely well coached. We’ll have to be able to handle the crowd noise and handle the environment.
Like a lot of weeks in this league, that'll be a huge key to our success offensively.”
Kirby Smart has beaten Auburn 10 times in 11 meetings as Georgia’s head coach and is looking for a 10th straight win over the Tigers this weekend. Georgia is 18-3 against Auburn since 2006 and leads the overall series 66-56-8.

Alabama Finally Responded After Raylen Wilson Postgame Confrontation
Georgias win at Bryant-Denny Stadium was already a big postgame moment, but it quickly turned into something else when a confrontation with linebacker Raylen Wilson was caught on video and spread across social media. Alabama later identified the fan involved and took action, a response that brought some closure to an incident that never should have followed the game into the tunnel area.
Kirby Smart had already pointed to Wilsons composure in the moment, a steady response from a player who had every reason to be rattled by the exchange. Alabama also condemned the behavior as unacceptable, and the episode now stands as another reminder of how quickly emotions can spill over after a high-profile SEC matchup, especially when the cameras keep rolling. Gunner Stockton Faces A Bigger Test As Georgia's Backfield Thins
Gunner Stockton is one of the names getting early Heisman buzz, but the more immediate concern for Georgia is the shape of its backfield as the schedule keeps getting tougher. The Bulldogs have leaned on Stockton to steady the offense, and his upcoming matchup now comes with added importance because the people around him may not be as plentiful as before.
For Georgia, that changes the equation in a hurry. A thinner backfield can put more on the quarterbacks plate, especially when the defense knows the game plan may have to be trimmed and every possession matters. Stockton has already put himself in the national conversation, but this next stretch will say a lot about how well he can carry it when the margins get tighter. [Read more 🡒]
Georgia Secondary Suddenly Has A Bigger Auburn Concern Than Fans Expected
Georgias secondary got a little more complicated heading into Auburn week when the Bulldogs released an updated injury report that pushed safety KJ Bolden to doubtful. Georgia has dealt with absences elsewhere on the roster as well, but Boldens status stands out because it comes against an Auburn team the Bulldogs will want to handle cleanly on the back end. Even with the uncertainty, Georgia does have ways to shuffle pieces around in the defensive backfield if needed.
The bigger issue now is simply waiting for the next round of availability updates as the SEC continues to release injury reports before kickoff. Georgia will have to keep preparing for multiple scenarios, especially if Bolden cannot go, since the staff may need to adjust the secondary on short notice. For a defense that wants stability entering a rivalry game, the timing is not ideal. [Read more 🡒]
