Georgia Faces A Telling SEC Media Days Moment For 2025

As Georgia aims for a third consecutive SEC title, quarterback Gunner Stockton and surprising attendee Drew Bobo head to media days to reveal their plans for the upcoming season.

Georgia will send a familiar trio to SEC media days next week, with quarterback Gunner Stockton, offensive lineman Drew Bobo and linebacker Raylen Wilson set to represent the Bulldogs in Tampa, Florida.

The SEC announced the player representatives for all 16 schools ahead of the event, which runs from Monday through Thursday. Georgia is scheduled to meet with reporters on Tuesday, and coach Kirby Smart will also speak as he previews the upcoming season.

Stockton’s spot on the podium makes plenty of sense. He returns as Georgia’s starting quarterback after throwing for 24 touchdowns and rushing for 10 more last season. He also finished seventh in Heisman Trophy voting and heads into the fall looking to become a more consistent player.

Wilson gives Georgia a defensive voice at the event, and his role figures to grow even more in 2026. Now in his fourth year in the program, he’ll be counted on to take on a more vocal leadership role as the Bulldogs work to replace CJ Allen. Last season, Wilson ranked third on the team in tackles and added 6.5 tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks.

Bobo is the most interesting name in the group, not because of any doubt about his value, but because of what his absence meant late last season. He earned Second Team All-SEC honors, and Georgia learned just how important he is when he went down with a season-ending foot injury against Georgia Tech. The offense slipped noticeably without him in the SEC championship game and College Football Playoff.

He did not take part in Georgia’s spring practice while continuing to recover, so his availability at media days should offer an update on where things stand with that injury.

Georgia enters the week as one of the favorites to win the SEC again after capturing the conference title in each of the past two seasons. Still, last year’s media days offered a reminder that preseason predictions can miss badly. Texas was the league’s pick to win the SEC then, but it finished 9-3 and missed the College Football Playoff entirely.

SEC media days open at 9 a.m. ET on Monday, with Georgia set to take the stage Tuesday morning.

Georgia Just Watched This Decommitment Get Even More Painful

Georgias recruiting board took a hit when Donte Wright moved on, but the sting is bigger now because the five-star cornerback is no ordinary loss. Wright has surged all the way to the top of the national cornerback rankings, making him one of the premier defensive backs in the country and a major priority for any program building toward the future. For Georgia, the timing is especially rough because the Bulldogs are still staring at a class without a defensive back commitment, leaving a glaring hole in a group that usually helps define their recruiting success.

Wrights decision also changes the shape of Georgias 2027 outlook in a meaningful way. When a player of that caliber is off the board, it is not just about losing one recruit, but about losing the kind of cornerstone prospect that can anchor a secondary class and help attract others behind him. The Bulldogs can keep recruiting, of course, but this one has the feel of a setback that lingers, especially with the path back looking far less open than it did before. [Read more 🡒]

One Georgia Commit Just Changed The Kirby Smart Recruiting Debate

Georgias recruiting class has become a familiar talking point again, and not just because of where it sits in the national rankings. With 18 commitments in hand, the Bulldogs have leaned heavily on lower-rated prospects so far, a profile that tends to invite the same old questions about whether Kirby Smart is valuing upside and development over the more obvious stars of the cycle.

Jamir Deans recent rise in the Rivals rankings adds another wrinkle to that debate, because it underscores how quickly perceptions can change once a prospect starts drawing more attention. For Georgia, the larger issue is the same one Smart has spent years answering on the field: whether the staff can keep finding players who look ordinary to recruiting services at first, then become the kind of talent that makes the rankings look late. Kirby Smart Faces A Huge In-State Recruiting Test Friday

Friday brings an important in-state recruiting checkpoint for Kirby Smart and Georgia, with four-star safety Ta'Shawn Poole set to make his college decision. One of the highest-profile uncommitted prospects in Georgia, Poole has narrowed things to Georgia, Florida State and Tennessee, and his choice will carry extra weight because of where he ranks among the states available talent.

For the Bulldogs, the timing matters almost as much as the player. Georgia still does not have a defensive back committed in its 2027 class, so landing Poole would help fill an obvious need while also keeping a top Georgia prospect close to home. Even with the competition lined up, this is the kind of announcement that can shape the early tone of a recruiting cycle. [Read more 🡒]
