Georgia Faces A Florida Ground Threat That Could Decide Jacksonville

Georgia's defense must rise to the challenge of stopping Florida's formidable running back, Jadan Baugh, to secure a victory in this key matchup.

Georgia’s trip to face Florida has drawn plenty of attention for the Gators’ quarterback situation, but the Bulldogs know the bigger problem may be sitting in the backfield.

Jadan Baugh has become the kind of runner defenses have to account for on every snap. He enters Saturday’s game ranked 11th nationally in rushing yards with 763, and Georgia sees him as the biggest challenge in Florida’s offense. If the Bulldogs want to leave with a win, they know they have to find a way to get him on the ground.

"They've got great run scheme, and they've got a great back to do it with," Kirby Smart said of Florida. "When you can run the ball and know your back's going to make people miss in the open field or break tackles by running through them, over them, around them, it certainly gives you the confidence to give him touches. He's been incredible."

Florida’s decision to keep Baugh in Gainesville was viewed as a major win when Jon Sumrall took over, and the junior has backed that up all season. He opened the year by topping 130 rushing yards in each of Florida’s first four games and scored 11 touchdowns over that stretch. The production has come down a bit in the last three games, but he still averaged more than 3.6 yards per carry against South Carolina and Texas and scored in both games.

Georgia has already seen what Baugh can do. In last year’s meeting, he carried 17 times for 64 yards in Florida’s 34-20 loss. In the next matchup, he finished with 15 carries for 72 yards and a touchdown in the Gators’ 24-20 defeat.

Smart said the staff has been showing the Bulldogs clips of Baugh all season to underline how dangerous he is. That message ties directly into an area Georgia worked on during the bye week: tackling. According to Pro Football Focus, the Bulldogs have missed 61 tackles this season, including 27 across their two games before the break.

Linebacker Raylen Wilson said the point has landed in the room.

"He's a great back. He's got thick lowers, he runs through arm tackles," Wilson said. "You got to come with it, bring your feet, and wrap him up."

Baugh has helped drive a Florida rushing attack that ranks 30th nationally with 194.3 yards per game, but he has not carried the load alone. The Gators’ offensive line has played well in the first half of the season, and backup Duke Clark has chipped in too, rushing for 126 yards and a touchdown against Ole Miss in Week 4.

Georgia Backfield Just Got An Encouraging Chauncey Bowens Update

Georgias backfield has been waiting on Chauncey Bowens, and there is at least some encouraging movement after a two-game absence. The running back has been dealing with an injury described as being between the toes, and his return to practice this week offered a sign that the recovery is heading in the right direction. He has been working through agility drills, which is a step forward for a group that has had to keep adjusting without him.

Bowens still is not cleared for full contact or game action, so the Florida matchup appears to come too soon. Even so, the fact that he is back on the field at all gives Georgia reason to think he may factor in later this season, depending on how the injury responds over the next stretch. For a team trying to manage depth in the backfield, that kind of progress matters, even if the finish line is still a little ways off. [Read more 🡒]

Georgias Auburn Loss Exposed A Problem Kirby Smart Cant Ignore

Georgias home loss to an unranked opponent was the kind of setback that can linger well beyond one Saturday in Athens, especially when the details point to self-inflicted damage. Costly penalties and turnovers helped drag the Bulldogs into an avoidable defeat, and even with some bright individual performances, the overall picture was hard to miss for Kirby Smart and his staff.

Freshman receiver Craig Dandridge gave the offense a spark with a team-high 88 receiving yards, while linebacker Raylen Wilson turned in a busy day with 10 solo tackles and a sack. Still, the most jarring number belonged to Auburns Byrum Brown, whose 115 rushing yards topped Georgias entire ground game, a mismatch that underscored a problem the Bulldogs cant afford to shrug off as the season moves on. Georgia Fans Are Suddenly Eyeing Sanford Stadium For A Huge Reveal

Georgia fans have spent the day trying to decode a simple butterfly image posted by the athletic departments official social media accounts, and the lack of explanation only added to the buzz. In Athens, even a vague tease can turn into a full-blown guessing game, especially when it appears tied to Sanford Stadium and the kind of announcement that could bring a different crowd to campus for a big fall reveal.

One theory making the rounds points to a concert by Grammy-nominated artist Noah Kahan, with the butterfly imagery echoing what is on his tour website and a countdown timer adding to the speculation. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the clock is clearly ticking, and Georgia fans will not have to wait long to find out whether the tease is about football, music, or something else entirely.
