The line for Georgia-Alabama didn’t sit still for long.
Georgia opened Week 6 as a 2.5-point road favorite at Alabama, according to FanDuel Sportsbook, but the number flipped quickly and moved to Alabama as a 1.5-point home favorite. That sets the stage for a marquee SEC matchup in Tuscaloosa, with kickoff scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
Georgia arrives at 5-0 and 3-0 in conference play after handling Vanderbilt 38-13 at home. The Bulldogs were in control by halftime, though the game was tighter than the final score suggested, with Georgia up 24-14 before pulling away with 17 unanswered points.
Gunner Stockton paced the offense with 295 passing yards and three touchdowns. Dwight Phillips Jr. led Georgia with 102 yards from scrimmage on 10 touches, while Ellis Robinson IV delivered the game’s biggest defensive play with a well-timed interception. Jordan Hall also helped swing momentum by blocking a long field goal attempt.
Georgia didn’t quite cash in for bettors, though. The Bulldogs finished a half-point short of covering, their first miss against the spread this season.
Head coach Kirby Smart pointed to the way his team handled a physical, demanding game.
"Yeah, I thought it was a great atmosphere out there today," Smart said after the game. "A little warmer than we probably anticipated.
I think the fans felt that way, too. But our guys pushed through.
I think to play well in this conference, you gotta be able to take as many punches as you give, and I thought our guys really responded well.
"We really needed this kind of game - tough, physical, hard fought. Punch, punch back, punch, punch back because that's how you play in the SEC.
So I was proud of our guys for that. Probably played the most complete game we've played so far in terms of all-around and responded well in the second half.
"And I thought Gunner did an outstanding job in execution. Played probably his best game.
A really physical game. A lot of respect to Vanderbilt.
They had a good game plan and did a nice job shrinking the game. And I have a lot of respect for their program and what they did so far."
The numbers around Georgia have been strong early. After a 2026 season in which the Bulldogs posted a 14.5-point average margin of victory and went 6-8 against the spread with a -0.4 mark against the spread, they’re off to a sharper start this year at 4-1 against the spread. Georgia also ranks second in the country with a 38-point average margin of victory and a +7.7 mark against the spread.
Alabama, meanwhile, has had the edge in the series overall, leading Georgia 45-27-6 all-time. The teams split their meetings last season, with Alabama winning 24-21 in Athens on Sept. 27 before Georgia answered with a 28-7 win in the SEC Championship game in Atlanta.
One more wrinkle: this is the sixth straight game against Georgia in which Alabama has entered as a betting underdog. The Crimson Tide were last favored against the Bulldogs in October 2020.

Georgias Week 5 Review Raised A Real Question About This Offense
SEC Network analyst Cole Cubelic used his Week 5 review to zoom in on a broad SEC picture, but Georgia fans had reason to pay attention to the part that touched their offense. His social media breakdown covered 13 teams across the league, from Alabamas road win over Mississippi State to Auburns loss to Tennessee, Floridas defeat at Missouri and Kentuckys overtime victory at South Carolina, giving a quick read on where the conference looked sharp and where it still had work to do.
For Georgia, the takeaway wasnt just about where the Bulldogs stand in the SEC pecking order. It was about what their offense is actually becoming as the schedule tightens and every possession starts to matter a little more. Cubelics review raised a real question that lingers beyond one weekly recap, and for a Georgia team with bigger goals ahead, that kind of uncertainty is the detail worth watching next. [Read more 🡒]
Georgia Fans Just Got A New Look At Rising In-State Talent
Georgia fans got another reminder this weekend that the next wave of in-state talent is already making noise on the high school scene. Newton pulled out a last-minute win over Westlake, while Cartersville rolled to a 50-0 victory over Cass, two results that stood out in a slate full of important games across Georgia.
The broader picture matters for the Bulldogs because these are the kinds of teams and players that shape the states recruiting landscape every year. With rankings shifting and more intriguing matchups still ahead for programs around Georgia, the calendar is only going to bring more chances for prospects to separate themselves and keep drawing attention from Athens. Georgia Fans Suddenly Have One Home Date To Watch Very Closely
Georgia still has not played a home night game this season, and the upcoming visit from Auburn is set for 3:30 p.m. EST, leaving Sanford Stadium without the lights for at least one more Saturday. The SECs current slate pushed other matchups into night slots, including Arkansas-Vanderbilt and Kentucky at Oklahoma, while Georgias own home schedule keeps moving along in the afternoon.
That makes the Missouri game on November 14 the one to circle next. It is the first remaining home date that could realistically land in a night window, depending on how both teams perform and where the rankings sit when the SEC starts making its late-season television decisions. [Read more 🡒]
