Kemon Spell didn’t need a workload to make a statement.
The five-star running back and Georgia commit, ranked as the No. 1 back in the country, opened his senior season Saturday and put together a line that borders on absurd: four carries, 73 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Two of the scores came from 8 and 13 yards, and he finished the night with a 38-yard touchdown as well. In other words, Spell barely touched the ball and still looked every bit like the nation’s top running back.
Spell has been committed to Georgia since February, and the performance only added to the case that the Bulldogs landed a special one. He’s been sitting at No. 1 at his position, though five-star Tennessee commit David Gabriel-Georges is the closest challenger. That matchup between the top two backs in the country already has a little juice to it, especially with both players turning in standout high school performances this season.
What makes Spell’s opener even more eye-catching is how little of the game he actually needed to play. Four carries isn’t exactly a full night’s work, but he still walked away with three touchdowns on the ledger. It’s the kind of start that makes you want to see what happens once he gets a real volume game.
For Georgia, though, the bigger picture is easy to see. Spell arrives next year with a chance to push for playing time right away, and the ceiling is massive. The source material frames him as someone who could become one of the best backs in Kirby Smart’s tenure, which is no small compliment given the talent Smart has coached in Athens.
And Spell may not be coming alone in terms of star power.
Georgia also has five-star quarterback commit Jayden Wade, the No. 1 player at his position. Wade is part of the 2028 class, so unless he reclassifies to 2027, he would reach Athens a year after Spell. The expectation is that the two eventually share the field as Georgia’s quarterback-running back pairing, and if they hit their ceilings, the Bulldogs could have an offense capable of reaching another level entirely.
That’s the kind of talk that lives comfortably at Georgia, where the standard is championships. Spell and Wade are both being held to that bar already, and both carry the kind of talent that could make those expectations look pretty reasonable down the line.
