Frank Anselem-Ibe Linked to Georgia Basketball's Stunning Turnaround Story

Former Georgia star Frank Anselem-Ibe reflects on pivotal moments that fueled the Bulldogs' remarkable turnaround and their return to postseason play.

In the world of college basketball, Frank Anselem-Ibe has been a quiet yet impactful figure. Back in 2022, he was part of Mike White's ambitious project to rejuvenate Georgia basketball after a challenging 6-26 season. As a reserve center who transferred from Syracuse, Anselem-Ibe played a key role in the Bulldogs' journey to a balanced 16-16 record during White’s inaugural season.

Reflecting on his time with the Bulldogs, Anselem-Ibe, now a graduate manager at Louisville, shared his pride in helping lay the groundwork for Georgia’s resurgence. “We were the first set of guys that got in there and helped get the program to where it is now,” he noted. Their efforts paid off the following year with a run to the NIT Final Four, marking Georgia’s first postseason appearance since 2017.

As the NCAA Tournament kicks off, Anselem-Ibe reached out to his former teammates, Dylan James, Blue Cain, Brandon Klatsky, and Jaden Newell, expressing his excitement to see them in Buffalo. Georgia is set to face off against Saint Louis, while Louisville will take on South Florida.

During his time at Georgia, Anselem-Ibe stepped up when needed, especially during a crucial stretch when center Russel Tchewa was sidelined. The 6-foot-10 native of Lagos, Nigeria, made his mark with a standout performance against Ohio State, recording a double-double, and leading the team with 20 blocks that season.

After graduating, Anselem-Ibe transitioned to Louisville, where he now contributes as a scout team player while keeping a close eye on his former team. He's particularly impressed by the development of Cain and James, who have matured from promising freshmen into key contributors.

“I’m locked in with my Dawgs,” he said, reflecting on the growth he’s witnessed. In today’s dynamic landscape, where the transfer portal constantly reshapes rosters, seeing young players evolve and make significant contributions is a rewarding experience for Anselem-Ibe.
