Floridas Best Shot Vs Georgia Starts With One Pressure Point

Georgia faces a formidable test from Florida's rushing offense that could exploit a chink in the Bulldogs' defensive armor.

Saturday’s rivalry clash between Georgia and Florida may tilt heavily toward the Bulldogs on paper, but there’s one spot where the Gators can make things uncomfortable: on the ground.

No. 3 Georgia heads into Week 9 with a defense that has largely been stout against the run, allowing just 91.4 rushing yards per game, which ranks No. 10 nationally.

Still, the last two games have exposed a crack in that armor. The Bulldogs gave up 161 rushing yards in a three-point win at Alabama, then yielded 192 more in a stunning loss to unranked Auburn the following week.

That’s enough to make Florida’s rushing game worth watching closely.

The Gators have a real weapon in Jadan Baugh, who has put together 763 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns and stands as the SEC’s third-most productive back. He’s been central to Florida’s offense, and his production gives the Gators a chance to control the ball and create scoring opportunities near the goal line.

Florida’s overall rushing numbers suggest this won’t be a one-man show, either. The Gators are averaging 194.3 rushing yards per game, which ranks fourth in the SEC, and that kind of ground volume is exactly the sort of stress test Georgia has recently struggled to pass.

There’s also a broader trend working in Florida’s favor. Jon Sumrall-coached teams are 37-3 in their last 40 games when they reach at least 125 rushing yards, a stat that points to the importance of the run game if the Gators want to stay close. Against a Georgia front that allows under 3 yards per carry, that becomes the clearest route to keeping the game tight.

Of course, Florida has already seen how quickly that plan can fall apart. Baugh was limited to 13 rushing yards against Missouri and 59 against South Carolina, and both of those games ended in ugly losses for the Gators.

So the formula is simple. If Florida can get Baugh going early, stay ahead of schedule, and force Georgia’s defense to keep dealing with physical, sustained drives, this rivalry game becomes much more interesting. If the Bulldogs slam that door shut, then Florida will be pushed into a passing game against a defense that gives up just 185 yards per game.

That’s the line in this matchup, and it still points to Georgia.

Georgia Is Gaining Control Of Florida Week For Two Very Different Reasons

Georgias hold on the cocktail-party matchup is looking firmer for two separate reasons, and both were already in view well before kickoff week fully got rolling. The Bulldogs are dealing with the absence of running back Chauncey Bowens, who has been ruled out because of injury, but the bigger backdrop is the uncertainty on Floridas side, where the quarterback situation still hasnt settled and both passers are listed as questionable.

For Georgia, that combination has only sharpened the betting picture. DraftKings Sportsbook has moved the Bulldogs from 9.5-point favorites to 12.5, a sign the market is buying into Georgias edge while Floridas offensive picture remains cloudy. The Gators still have coaches, fans and players pulling in different directions on who should get the start, and until that question is answered, Georgia will keep benefiting from the uncertainty. Arch Manning Rumor Puts Kirby Smart In A Tough Georgia Spot

The Arch Manning chatter has given Georgia another uncomfortable offseason conversation to navigate, even before anything official is on the table. Former Bulldogs star David Pollack said he heard from an SEC coach that Manning could enter the transfer portal this offseason, and Georgia was mentioned as a possible landing spot, which immediately ties the speculation to Kirby Smarts program and the quarterback room already in place.

For Smart, the issue is bigger than simply whether Manning would fit in Athens. Georgia has built much of its identity around loyalty to the players already in the building, and Smart has generally been reluctant to push current members aside in favor of outside additions. If the Bulldogs were to seriously explore Manning, it would raise real questions about recruiting, timing and the message it would send inside the locker room. [Read more 🡒]

Georgia Just Made A Long Term Move That Could Reshape The Program

Georgia is locking in a long-term business relationship that could have a lasting impact across the athletic department, extending its partnership with Learfield for another 15 years and keeping the arrangement in place through 2042. The new deal is designed to expand sponsorship, media, and fan engagement opportunities for Georgia athletics, a sign that the school is thinking well beyond game days and into the broader revenue engine that now drives major college sports.

For athletic director Josh Brooks and football coach Kirby Smart, the agreement underscores how central those partnerships have become in supporting student-athletes and keeping the Bulldogs competitive on and off the field. Learfield CEO Cole Gahagan also framed the extension as part of the larger push to grow athletics revenues, which makes this more than a routine contract update, it is a forward-looking move with the potential to shape how Georgia presents itself for years to come.
