ESPN is leaning all the way into Nick Saban’s legend.
On Thursday afternoon in late August, the network unveiled a 1-minute trailer for its upcoming six-part documentary on the former Alabama coach, and it wasted no time setting the tone. The series is titled “Saban,” and it will premiere on Oct. 8, just two days before Alabama and Georgia meet in Tuscaloosa on Oct. 10.
“Get your popcorn ready,” ESPN wrote atop its social media post teasing the project.
That’s a pretty clean way to stir the pot for a documentary built around one of college football’s defining figures. Saban, now 74, is the West Virginia native who carved out his coaching legacy in the SEC, winning six national championships at Alabama and one more at LSU before that.
The trailer alone was enough to give fans a preview of what ESPN is selling in October. And the network didn’t just post the tease once - it made clear the full six episodes of “Saban” will be available on the ESPN App starting Oct. 8.
Saban’s ESPN chapter is already underway, of course. He’s now part of the network’s college football coverage as an analyst on College GameDay, where fans get their regular dose of his perspective each Saturday morning.
But the documentary will take viewers back through the run that made him a giant in Tuscaloosa, especially the stretch that produced those six national titles before he retired at the end of the 2023 season.
And while Saban’s story is getting the spotlight, the 2026 season is already carrying its own SEC drama. Alabama is chasing its first SEC title since Saban’s exit, while Georgia is aiming for a third straight conference crown.
