Carson Beck’s first steps into the NFL have not gone smoothly, and Georgia fans probably aren’t shocked by any of it.
Beck is now with the Arizona Cardinals after finally coming to terms on his rookie contract last week, giving him a chance to focus fully on camp. Instead, the early returns have been rough.
Theo Mackie reported on July 26, 2026: “Carson Beck has had a lot of big misses early in camp. Like, 5+ yards off target.
Something to keep an eye on.”
That kind of scattershot start fits a familiar pattern for Beck. He has long battled ball security issues, and both Georgia and Miami fans would have plenty to say about his turnover problems.
It is one thing to struggle in a game when the pressure is on and defenders are flying around. It is another to be missing badly in practice, where teams are usually trying to ease a quarterback into the mix.
The Cardinals are hoping Beck can become their future at quarterback, but he has not done much yet to show he is ready to lead an NFL offense.
His history with Georgia adds another layer to the reaction. Beck was never quite the quarterback many expected him to be in Athens, even though he still helped deliver plenty of success for the program.
By the end of last season, the relationship between Beck and Georgia had settled into a better place, and most Bulldogs fans stopped actively rooting against him. They still were not going to cheer for him, though.
What they likely would not do is express much surprise at these early NFL struggles.
Beck took over Georgia’s offense in 2023 and had a huge season, enough to get some NFL scouts talking about him as a possible No. 1 quarterback in the draft once he turned pro. The expectations only grew from there, but 2024 did not live up to the hype.
Georgia lost two regular-season games for the first time since the Covid 2020 season, and Beck threw a career-high 12 interceptions. He also had Georgia trailing Texas at halftime of the 2024 SEC Championship game before getting injured, and if not for Gunner Stockton’s heroics, they might not have won that game.
His year at Miami in 2025 did not clean things up much either. Beck threw 12 interceptions again, including a costly pick late in the National Championship game that clinched their loss to Indiana.
He is going to get plenty of opportunities in the NFL, but the first stretch with Arizona has been ugly. Georgia fans may not be rooting for him, and after what they saw in college, they would probably bet against a big pro breakout.
