Byrum Brown Earns National Recognition Auburn Fans Will Appreciate

Six standout seniors from SEC schools have emerged as finalists for college footballs top scholar-athlete honor, showcasing excellence in the classroom, on the field, and within their communities.

Six SEC players are in the running for one of college football’s most prestigious academic honors.

On Wednesday, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame announced 18 finalists for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which the organization calls “college football’s premier scholar-athlete award that annually recognizes an individual as the absolute best in the nation for his combined academic success, football performance and exemplary leadership.” Among the finalists are Auburn quarterback Byrum Brown, Kentucky defensive back Ty Bryant, Tennessee linebacker Arion Carter, Alabama defensive back Bray Hubbard, Vanderbilt linebacker Nick Rinaldi and Georgia quarterback Gunner Stockton.

Each finalist will “receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship as members of the 2026 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class.”

The NFF highlighted the academic and service profiles of the six SEC standouts in a series of congratulatory posts. Brown owns a 3.81 GPA and contributes through youth and community programs.

Bryant carries a 3.83 GPA in sport communication and gives back to his hometown of Lexington. Carter holds a 3.53 GPA in public health and uses his platform to support others.

Hubbard, who has a 3.58 GPA in sport management, gives back through youth programs in Tuscaloosa. Rinaldi has a 3.97 GPA in economics and serves his community through school supply drives and hospital visits.

Stockton has a 3.27 GPA and gives back through hospital visits, youth camps and community programs.

On the field, the SEC group has made its presence felt in different ways. Brown, a Raleigh, N.C., native who arrived at Auburn after four seasons at South Florida, powered the Tigers’ Week 7 upset of Georgia with 265 total yards and two total touchdowns. Stockton, from Tiger, Ga., has generally been efficient for Georgia this season, and his 74.1% completion percentage leads the SEC, even though turnovers hurt the Bulldogs in that same game.

Bryant, a Lexington native, came up big in Kentucky’s win over Oklahoma with two interceptions and now ranks third on the Wildcats with 53 tackles. Hubbard, from Ocean Springs, Miss., has filled multiple roles for Alabama and also sits third on the team in tackles with 36.

Rinaldi, a Dover, Mass., product, is third on Vanderbilt with 42 tackles. Carter, a native of Smyrna, Tenn., has posted the second-most tackles among Tennessee defenders with 43.

Everyone among the finalists except Stockton, who is on bye, will be back in action in Week 8.

Georgia Just Got The Title Pressure Fans Didnt Expect

Ohio States quarterback situation just changed the conversation at the top of the national title race, and Georgia is one of the teams feeling the ripple effect. Julian Sayins injury and indefinite absence have pushed the Buckeyes into a difficult stretch, and with Georgia still sitting near the front of the championship chase despite its loss to Auburn, the odds have begun to tilt in the Bulldogs direction.

For Georgia, that brings a different kind of pressure. The Bulldogs are still very much in the mix, but the path now looks a little more open than it did before, especially with Ohio State facing a tougher run while leaning on a backup quarterback. Georgias margin for error is still slim, and the attention around its title case is only growing as the season tightens. [Read more 🡒]

Kirby Smart Has Every Reason To Ignore Cowboys Noise

The Cowboys uneven start has already stirred up the usual offseason-style chatter, but there is nothing concrete behind it. Dallas executive Stephen Jones has already voiced confidence in Brian Schottenheimer despite the 2-4 record, and at this point there is no confirmed coaching opening or credible sign that the franchise is even looking elsewhere.

Kirby Smart has plenty of reasons to tune out the noise from Texas and keep his focus where it belongs in Athens. Fans can connect dots all they want, but there is no evidence Smart is interested in leaving Georgia for the NFL, much less for a job that does not appear to be available in the first place. Georgia Fans Have A New Fear About Georgia Tech Week

The buildup to Georgia-Georgia Tech has always been about more than record or rankings, but the expanded 24-team College Football Playoff is giving fans a new reason to worry about what the rivalry might look like going forward. With more teams able to reach the postseason, the late-season math changes, and games that once felt like absolute must-wins could start to carry a different kind of weight for programs already in position to qualify.

From Georgias side, that raises an uncomfortable possibility: if a playoff berth is secure, would coaches be more inclined to protect players and lean conservative rather than chase every edge in a rivalry game? It is the same kind of calculation NFL teams make when they have postseason spots locked up, and for fans who still want Georgia-Tech to feel sharp, intense and all-in, that is the part worth watching when this week rolls around.
