In a major boost for UCLA’s rebuild, quarterback Nico Iamaleava is staying put in Westwood for the 2026 season. The announcement came via his Instagram on Monday, where the former five-star recruit made it clear: he’s all in.

For new head coach Bob Chesney, this is the kind of early win that can set the tone for a program trying to find its footing again. Chesney, fresh off a successful run at James Madison, was brought in on a five-year deal to steady the ship after a rocky 2025 campaign.
That season started with DeShaun Foster at the helm, but a rough 0-3 start led to his dismissal. Interim coach Tom Skipper held the reins until Chesney’s hiring, but now-with Iamaleava committed and the coaching staff in place-the Bruins can finally start building with a clear direction.
