Tae'Shaun Gelsey is starting to look like a real piece of Florida State’s receiver rotation, and the progress has shown up in camp.
The Seminoles’ wideout has spent the offseason chasing one thing above all else: confidence. That was the word Gelsey kept coming back to while talking with reporters in Jacksonville, where FSU held camp and the Duval County native got a chance to think about how far he’s come.
“The most I improved on is confidence,” Gelsey told reporters in Jacksonville. “I came in and really had to work for my spot.
I pretty much had to go through the whole process all over again... My main goal was to build confidence in the spring, carry over to the summer.
I really just want to be somebody that's dependable.”
That’s the lane Gelsey has been trying to carve out since arriving in Tallahassee. As a freshman, he was limited to four games. Now, heading into his second season, he’s in position for a bigger role, and he’s already drawing steady praise from Florida State’s staff.
Offensive coordinator Tim Harris Jr. singled him out after the Seminoles’ scrimmage on Tuesday, Aug. 4, saying Gelsey is stacking up every chance he gets.
“I'll tell you right now, what he's doing in training camp right now, he's earning every opportunity that he'll get,” Harris said of Gelsey after the Seminoles' scrimmage on Tuesday, Aug. 4.
“He's showing up every single day. It showed up last night in the scrimmage; it wasn't just the controlled setting at practice.
Because sometimes you see that, and then when the lights are on, and everything is going, the flow of the game, you don't see it. But with him, he's showing up every day.
I'm very pleased.”
Head coach Mike Norvell has also seen the consistency. In a receiver room that appears to have Duce Robinson and Micahi Danzy at the top, Gelsey has been making the most of his opportunities and putting himself in the mix behind them.
His experience has helped, Harris said, and the physical tools are obvious. At 6-foot-4 and 227 pounds, Gelsey gives Florida State a big-bodied option who can back up Robinson and add extra length if both are on the field together.
The former four-star prospect brought a proven high school résumé with him, too. As a senior at Riverside, he caught 61 passes for 875 yards and 14 touchdowns, and those traits have shown up in practice.
Still, Gelsey isn’t interested in being boxed into one spot. He wants to be the kind of receiver who can line up anywhere and handle the job.
“Another goal I had going into the summer is being able to play wherever. Boundary, field, it really doesn't matter,” Gelsey said. “Just being able to get the job done at any spot they put me at.”
For now, that versatility and reliability are giving him a path to more snaps this season.

Florida State is dealing with another roster shakeup just as preseason approaches, this time on the defensive line. True freshman defensive end Chris Carbin, a three-star recruit who enrolled early and was expected to redshirt this fall, is no longer on the Seminoles roster after being dismissed for unspecified reasons before camp.
Chris Carbin has already found a landing spot and will continue his career at Blinn College, an NJCAA Division I program. Former Florida State Standout Gets Another Shot With The Cowboys
The Cowboys are giving Jashaun Corbin another chance, signing the former Florida State running back and moving on from Dominic Richardson. Corbin has been in and around NFL rosters before, including practice squad stops with the Giants, Panthers, Falcons and Patriots, and he also spent time in the UFL as he kept chasing a longer look.
For Florida State fans, it is another reminder that Corbins pro path has stayed alive through persistence as much as opportunity. He came out of college with a rsum that included both Texas A&M and Florida State, and now he gets a fresh audition in Dallas, where a new opening on the roster gives him a chance to show he still belongs in the conversation.
