Star Miami Commit Skyrockets In New Rankings

A breakout junior season and meteoric rise in the rankings have solidified Asharri Charles as a cornerstone of Miamis surging 2026 recruiting class.

Asharri Charles is officially on the national radar-and climbing fast.

The four-star EDGE out of Venice High School made one of the biggest leaps in Rivals' final rankings for the 2026 recruiting cycle, jumping an eye-popping 99 spots from No. 184 to No. 85 overall. That kind of surge doesn’t happen by accident. It’s the result of a dominant junior season that turned heads across the country and solidified Charles as one of the premier pass rushers in this class.

Let’s break down what’s behind the rise.

Charles was a force all year long for Venice, racking up 107 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 13.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He anchored a defense that helped lead Venice to a Florida 7A state championship, and his play earned him first-team all-state honors. That kind of production-especially in one of the most competitive high school football states in the country-carries serious weight with evaluators.

And this wasn’t a one-year breakout. Charles had already posted 98 tackles, 15.5 TFLs, and 11 sacks as a sophomore.

The consistency is there. The growth is obvious.

And now, the national attention is catching up.

Recruiting services across the board have taken notice. Charles is now considered a top-20 EDGE prospect by Rivals, 247Sports, and ESPN. That puts him in elite company and adds even more shine to a Miami Hurricanes recruiting class that’s already loaded with talent.

Charles chose the Hurricanes over a strong list of suitors that included Florida, LSU, Florida State, Texas A&M, and Penn State. That’s a who’s who of college football powers, and it speaks volumes about Miami’s ability to close on high-level defensive talent-especially in their home state.

He’s part of a deep and diverse defensive line haul for the Hurricanes in 2026. Alongside Charles, Miami signed:

  • Logan Nagle (DL), DePaul Catholic (NJ)
  • DeAnthony Lafayette (EDGE), Lake Nona (FL)
  • Keshawn Stancil (DL), Clayton (NC)
  • Tyson Bacon (DL), Hoover (AL)
  • Frederic Sainteus (DL), St. John Neuman Catholic (FL)
  • Isaac Chukwurah (DL), Caravel Academy (DE)
  • Jordan Campbell (EDGE), Miami Northwestern (FL)

That’s a group with both size and speed, local ties and national reach. Miami’s defensive front is being built to compete with the best, and Charles is a key piece of that puzzle.

This 2026 class is helping to elevate Miami’s national profile. The Hurricanes signed 30 high school prospects and landed inside the top 10 on multiple national recruiting boards-No. 11 in the 247Sports composite and No. 9 in On3’s industry comparison. They’re also sitting atop the ACC rankings.

It’s a statement class for a program that came within a touchdown of a national title this past season. That kind of success on the field is translating into momentum on the trail. And with Charles now rising into elite territory, Miami’s future in the trenches looks even brighter.

The Hurricanes are building something, and Asharri Charles is going to be a big part of it.
