The Seminoles are looking to revitalize their backfield, and Ousmane Kromah is at the center of this effort. As spring football gets underway, it's a crucial period for Florida State players to step up, and Kromah is no exception under the watchful eye of head coach Mike Norvell.
Kromah made waves as a true freshman, showcasing his potential with an impressive 5.7 yards per carry, racking up 408 rushing yards. This performance placed him 10th among Power Four conference running backs. At 6-foot-1 and 218 pounds, Kromah's physical presence on the field is undeniable, yet his first season revealed areas for growth.
One of the key challenges for Kromah was consistency in running tracks. His struggles with taking proper angles were evident in his 1.51 yards per carry before contact, a statistic that highlights room for improvement in his approach to the run game.
Despite these hurdles, Kromah's physical prowess was clear, boasting a 4.11 yards per carry rate after contact and a 40.3 Avoided Tackle Rate, ranking him second nationally among freshmen. These numbers underscore his ability to break tackles and make plays, even when initial routes falter.
Kromah is tackling these issues head-on this spring. Reflecting on his freshman year, he noted the lack of time to refine his skills, having joined the team in the summer. Now, with a full offseason under his belt, he's focusing on honing his technique.
"Coach Kam Martin is pushing me on the smallest details," Kromah shared. "This year is about refining my game so that by the season, I'll be playing fluently and efficiently."
With Kromah's dedication to improvement and the guidance of the coaching staff, the Seminoles are optimistic about what he can bring to the field this upcoming season.
