Florida State has added a major piece to its backfield, landing former Texas running back Quintrevion Wisner out of the transfer portal for the 2026 season.
It’s a move that fits the moment for the Seminoles. Florida State’s offense struggled in 2025, and the team is set to lose its top two rushers from that season. Wisner gives Mike Norvell’s revamped offense a proven option with SEC experience, production, and plenty of versatility.
Wisner spent the last two seasons as Texas’ top rusher and appeared in 38 games for the Longhorns, making 21 starts. Before his junior year, he was on the watchlist for the Doak Walker Award, Maxwell Award, and the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award.
His 2025 season didn’t unfold the way many expected. Wisner entered the year as a preseason first-team All-SEC running back and was the only returning player in the conference with more than 1,000 yards from the previous season. A leg injury limited him, but he still finished with 22 receptions and averaged 4.6 yards per carry.
The best stretch of his Texas career came in 2024, when he piled up 1,375 total yards and six touchdowns while averaging 4.7 yards per carry on the ground. That season earned him third team All SEC running back honors, and he also set a Texas single-season record for a running back with 44 receptions.
Wisner arrived in college as a highly regarded recruit in 2022 out of DeSoto High School in DeSoto, Texas. As a senior, the four-star back helped lead his team to a state championship while rushing for 846 yards, catching 44 passes, and scoring 10 total touchdowns. Rivals ranked him as the No. 15 all-purpose back in the country, and he chose Texas over Texas A&M and Oklahoma.
At Florida State, he joins a running back room that already includes true sophomore Ousmane Kromah, the Seminoles’ top recruit in 2025, and Samuel Singleton Jr., who played in 11 of 12 games in 2025 and finished fourth on the team in rushing yards.
Wisner is expected to see significant playing time after Florida State’s NIL package helped bring him in. The Seminoles open the season August 29 at home against New Mexico St., and Wisner and Kromah are expected to lead the ground game.
The question now is whether Wisner can get back to the level he showed in 2024. We have 40 days to find out.
