Mike Norvell Facing Major Florida State Pressure

Mike Norvell strategizes a comeback for Florida State, banking on fresh talent to steer the team back to its former glory.

With the pressure dialed up after two tough seasons, Mike Norvell is reloading Florida State's roster, aiming to rekindle the championship spark that once defined the program.

Florida State's season-ending loss to Florida on November 29, 2025, marked the end of consecutive losing seasons. This places Coach Norvell among those with the most to prove as the next season approaches.

Andrea Adelson, alongside five colleagues, pinpointed which college football teams, coaches, and players have the most at stake next season. Adelson singled out Norvell, noting FSU's mere seven wins over the past two seasons, a stark contrast to their 13-1 triumph in 2023.

"Norvell and everyone involved with the program know the past two seasons have not been acceptable," Adelson remarked.

The Seminoles wrapped up last season at 5-7, with a 2-7 record in ACC matchups. Their conference victories came against Wake Forest, 42-7, and Virginia Tech, 34-14, both in November.

In 2024, Norvell's squad endured one of the roughest seasons in recent FSU history, finishing 2-10 with just a single conference win.

In response to these challenges, FSU has made strategic changes, aiming to restore their winning legacy.

"Florida State made structural changes to its personnel department and went heavy into the portal again to try to win now," Adelson added.

Norvell and his staff have brought in 23 new transfers this cycle, adding depth and talent across the board.

The roster now features ten new offensive players, eight defensive players, and five special teams players.

FSU last claimed a conference championship in 2023, besting the then-No. 14 Louisville Cardinals, 16-6.

A key element in Norvell's championship quest is the quarterback battle.

Sperry, who redshirted last year, appeared in three games, completing 12 of 17 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Daniels, also redshirted after four games with Auburn, brings experience from his time at Stanford, where he threw for 3,947 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 20 interceptions over two seasons.

Norvell has praised the competition between Sperry and Daniels, eager to see who will rise to lead the team.

With these changes, FSU hopes to turn the page and return to the heights of college football glory.
