Luke Loucks Aims to Boost Florida State's Record With Key Road Wins

Florida State's path to ACC improvement hinges on road challenges, as Luke Loucks aims to elevate the team's standing in his first season at the helm.

Florida State basketball is making waves this season with a promising shot to improve their ACC record under the guidance of first-year head coach Luke Loucks. The Seminoles currently stand at 13-13 overall and 6-7 in the ACC, showing resilience in a conference that's arguably stronger and deeper than last year.

Reflecting on the 2024-25 season, FSU wrapped up with a 17-15 overall record and 8-12 in the ACC during Leonard Hamilton’s final year. They entered the ACC Tournament as the No. 11 seed but were ousted by No. 14 Syracuse.

Fast forward to now, and Florida State is turning heads with their recent performances. With five ACC games left, including three on the road, the Seminoles are gearing up for a crucial stretch.

They kick off this run against Clemson, then host their rivals, the Miami Hurricanes, before hitting the road to face Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh. The regular season finale will see them hosting SMU.

FSU has already claimed victory over Miami and is expected to be favored against Georgia Tech and Pittsburgh. Their previous encounter with SMU was a nail-biter, ending in a narrow three-point loss on the road.

If the Seminoles can notch wins against Georgia Tech, Pittsburgh, and either repeat their win over Miami, topple Clemson, or avenge their close loss to SMU, they’ll finish at least .500 in the ACC. This would mark a significant improvement from last year.

Under Loucks, Florida State is playing some of their best basketball in the conference, with the potential to secure a single-digit seed in the ACC Tournament, depending on the outcomes of these final games. Adding to the excitement, FSU is welcoming its best recruiting class since 2021, raising expectations even higher as the team’s performance has surged over the past 8-10 games.

The big question now is: Can FSU carry this momentum into the ACC Tournament and notch a win or two?
