Jameis Winston didn’t just show up at the 2026 FIFA World Cup - he threw himself into it.
By the time Spain beat Argentina 1-0 in extra time on Sunday to claim the title, the former Florida State quarterback had already carved out his own lane as one of FOX Sports’ most memorable faces from the tournament. Winston spent more than a month moving from one fan culture to another, soaking in the atmosphere and leaning all the way into the experience.
When FOX Sports analyst Melissa Ortiz asked him to pick his favorite moments, Winston pointed straight to the people and the traditions.
“I think my ultimate favorite part was just immersing myself with all the specific cultures. I can just think about cleaning up with the Japanese," Winston said.
"I can think about learning about the energy that the Argentinians sent. We can dance.
We can be together. You guys are my community.”
That connection showed up in all kinds of ways. Winston joined Argentina supporters for a round of double Dutch, a moment that fit right in with the playful, anything-goes tone of his assignment. He also spent time helping Japanese supporters collect trash from the stands, wore traditional German attire, took part in a Viking row, and even dressed as a shark to chase opposing fans.
Winston said the scale of FOX Sports’ coverage gave the whole experience extra weight, especially once the final arrived and the tournament’s reach had become impossible to ignore.
"But really, the impact that FOX Sports has had on the entire world, the 11 billion views," Winston continued. "We have impacted so many lives, so I’m grateful for that.”
That mix of humor, energy and willingness to jump in made Winston a favorite with fans throughout the tournament, even though he entered as a relative newcomer to “the other football".
Now back to focusing on his NFL career with the New York Giants, Winston’s summer with FOX offered a different kind of spotlight - and a reminder of the kind of presence he can bring once his playing days are over.
