Florida State is set to lose a dynamic offensive weapon as tight end Randy Pittman Jr. plans to enter the transfer portal ahead of his senior season. And make no mistake-this isn’t just another name leaving the roster. Pittman made a real impact in his lone season in Tallahassee, showcasing a rare versatility that turned heads across the ACC.
Pittman etched his name into Florida State history in 2025, becoming just the third Seminole ever to record a rushing, passing, and receiving touchdown in the same game-a feat that speaks volumes about his skill set and how the coaching staff trusted him in multiple roles. Over the course of the season, he pulled in 23 receptions for 208 yards and two touchdowns, recording at least two catches in 11 of the team’s 12 games. That level of consistency, especially from the tight end position, is hard to come by.
He made his FSU debut in a statement win over No. 8 Alabama, catching two passes for 18 yards.
But it was the game against Virginia that truly showcased his all-around ability. In that contest, Pittman found the end zone three different ways-through the air, on the ground, and with a pass of his own.
That’s not just rare; it’s the kind of performance that gets remembered.
Throughout the season, he continued to contribute in key moments. He had 39 receiving yards and a touchdown against Miami, 24 yards against Stanford, and 32 yards with a rushing score in a win over Wake Forest.
He added 47 receiving yards against Clemson, and chipped in a rushing touchdown and seven receiving yards in the Virginia Tech matchup. Even in lower-yardage games, like against NC State and Florida, Pittman remained involved, combining for 25 total yards across both contests.
Before his time at Florida State, Pittman spent two seasons at UCF under then-head coach Gus Malzahn-who now serves as FSU’s offensive coordinator-and wide receivers coach Tim Harris Jr. That familiarity likely played a role in his transition to Tallahassee, and it’s clear the staff knew what they were getting.
At UCF, Pittman played in all 25 games across the 2023 and 2024 seasons, starting 11 of them. He totaled 51 catches for 631 yards and three touchdowns.
His 2024 campaign was particularly productive, with 32 receptions for 416 yards and two scores-both of which came in a dominant 56-12 win over Arizona. That game also featured a career-high five catches for 80 yards, including a 48-yard bomb that marked his longest reception to date.
As a freshman in 2023, he added 19 receptions for 215 yards and a touchdown, earning honorable mention in the Big 12 Freshman of the Year voting.
Pittman’s versatility has been a constant throughout his football journey. At Mosley High School, he lined up all over the field-tight end, quarterback, running back, wide receiver-and even made an impact on defense, tallying 50 tackles as a defensive end. He caught 48 passes for 704 yards and six touchdowns his senior year and was also a standout on the basketball court, earning Panama City News-Herald Basketball Player of the Year honors as a sophomore.
Now, as he heads back into the transfer portal, Pittman becomes one of the more intriguing offensive weapons available. He’s not just a tight end-he’s a Swiss Army knife who can line up in multiple spots, contribute in the run game, throw the occasional pass, and make plays after the catch. Wherever he lands next, he brings a wealth of experience, proven production, and a unique skill set that could elevate any offense looking for a versatile playmaker.
