Florida State is almost out of camp and almost to kickoff, with Week 0 against New Mexico State set for Aug. 29 inside Doak Campbell Stadium. That means the guessing game around the Seminoles’ first depth chart is about to get real, even if the official version likely won’t land until Monday.
Mike Norvell is heading into his seventh year with the kind of pressure that follows every move. The Seminoles have stumbled enough in recent seasons that anything less than a major turnaround probably won’t be enough to secure an eighth season in Tallahassee. So the opening lineup matters here - not just for Aug. 29, but for how this year gets framed from the start.
On offense, a few spots feel close to settled. Duce Robinson and Micahi Danzy are the easy answers at wide receiver, while Ashton Daniels is the starter at quarterback. The backup quarterback battle has been one of the more competitive pieces of preseason camp, and Malachi Marshall has pushed his way into the conversation in a real way.
The slot receiver spot is more open-ended. Jayvan Boggs is the likely choice, but his injury history and Jasen Lopez’s strong preseason have made that job worth watching. Tight end also has some movement attached to it, with Desirrio Riles or Landen Thomas projected to start and Xavier Tiller or Chase Loftin in the mix behind them.
