FSU Signs Massive Lineman From Overseas With Unusual Football Background

Florida State adds a massive, raw offensive line prospect from England in Luke Francis, betting on upside and untapped potential.

FSU Adds Massive International Prospect Luke Francis to 2025 Class

Florida State’s 2025 recruiting class just got a whole lot bigger-literally and figuratively. The Seminoles have landed a commitment from Luke Francis, a 6-foot-5, 345-pound offensive lineman with roots in South London and a game that’s still raw but loaded with upside.

Francis is one of the more intriguing additions in this cycle, and not just because of his size. He’s a product of the NFL Academy, a growing pipeline for international talent, and spent the 2025 season stateside at Coral Gables Senior High in South Florida. While his stat line hasn’t made its way to MaxPreps, his tape and physical tools have drawn plenty of attention.

Florida State offered him on June 18 as a guard, and just four days later, he was locked in. That quick turnaround speaks volumes about both the Seminoles’ pitch and Francis’ conviction. Programs like Texas, Florida, Georgia Tech, and Maryland had interest, but Francis made it clear he wasn’t shopping around-once FSU came calling, that was it.

What makes Francis such a compelling prospect is the combination of size, strength, and untapped potential. He’s relatively new to football-less than two years into playing the sport-but he’s already held his own against elite competition.

As part of the NFL Academy, he lined up against national powerhouses like IMG Academy and De La Salle. That’s a trial by fire, and Francis didn’t back down.

His highlights, mostly on the defensive side of the ball, show a big man who can move. He’s got surprising pursuit speed for someone carrying that much weight, and when he gets his hands on a ball carrier, the play’s usually over.

His wingspan is massive, and he uses it well to control blockers or shed them entirely. The leverage still needs refining-no surprise for a newer player-but the strength, both upper and lower body, is already there.

He’s hard to move, and that’s a great starting point for any lineman.

Recruiting services like 247Sports Composite have him ranked as the No. 1,881 player nationally, No. 148 among interior offensive linemen, and No. 212 in Florida. But those numbers come with a big asterisk: Francis is still learning the game.

That’s not a knock-it actually works in his favor. Coaches won’t have to break bad habits or rewire years of poor technique.

They get a clean slate with elite physical traits, and that’s a coach’s dream project.

Francis also brings a unique background to Tallahassee. He joins Menelik Watson as the only players from the United Kingdom to suit up for the Seminoles. Like Watson, who went on to play in the NFL, Francis is part of a growing wave of international athletes using football as a launchpad to opportunity.

Before committing to FSU, Francis played for the London Warriors and earned a spot in the Military Appreciation Bowl in Texas. He also participated in Florida State’s Big Man Camp, where he got a firsthand look at the program and coaching staff. That visit sealed the deal.

There’s no sugarcoating it-Francis will be a developmental player at the college level. But when you start with a 6-foot-5, 345-pound frame, a massive wingspan, and a willingness to learn, the ceiling gets pretty high. He may not be an immediate contributor, but the long-term potential is real.

Florida State is betting on that upside, and if Francis continues to grow the way he has over the past two years, this could be one of those under-the-radar pickups that pays big dividends down the line.
