FSU Opens New Era With Pressure Already Building

Florida State begins the Rick Stockstill era against Boston College, aiming to end their road losing streak and keep bowl hopes alive.

Florida State gets a chance to reset the tone of its season today when it visits Boston College, with the Seminoles trying to shake off a rough stretch and get the Rick Stockstill era moving in the right direction.

FSU comes in at 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the ACC after a 36-24 loss to Clemson in Mike Norvell’s final game. That defeat came with a major blow, too, as star receiver Duce Robinson suffered a season-ending torn ACL. Ashton Daniels also had a tough afternoon, throwing three interceptions to bring his season total to an FBS-leading 11 - a number that lines up uncomfortably well with Boston College’s defense, which leads the ACC with 11 picks of its own.

The Seminoles are also carrying a 14-game losing streak away from home, a skid that stretches back to the ill-fated 2023 Orange Bowl. Still, the back half of the schedule leaves some room for hope, and bowl eligibility remains in play if FSU can finish strong. That push starts today against a Boston College team that is 4-4 and 2-3 in the ACC after a brutal 47-2 loss at Duke.

Boston College managed just 213 total yards in that game. Dual-threat quarterback Mason McKenzie, who ranks seventh in the ACC in rushing, accounted for 111 of them. The freshman had been much more dynamic the week before against Georgia Tech, when he threw for 101 yards, ran for 170, and scored three touchdowns.

Florida State vs. Boston College will air nationally on ACC Network in Week 10 of the 2026 college football season.

Jorge Sedano and Dave Clawson will handle the broadcast from the booth at Alumni Stadium, with Annabelle Hasselbeck reporting from the sideline. Streaming options include the ESPN app and Fubo, which offers a free trial to new subscribers.

Odds courtesy of BetMGM as of Friday, Nov. 6, list Florida State as a 6½-point favorite. The over/under is 52½, and the moneyline has FSU at -250 and Boston College at +200.

Liam Rooney of the Tallahassee Democrat picked Florida State 28, Boston College 17, writing: "Stockstill has done a good job of relaying a message to his team of honoring the FSU legacy, and a coaching change can often invigorate a team. A loss all but seals the program's fate of missing a bowl game, so there is plenty to play for."

FSU Depth Chart Shakeup Raises Big Questions Before Boston College

Florida States updated depth chart ahead of Boston College came with a few notable changes, and the most eye-catching one was at quarterback. Junior Malachi Marshall is no longer listed, leaving Ashton Daniels and Kevin Sperry as the names at the position as the Seminoles keep sorting through their options heading into the matchup.

The changes did not stop there. Duce Robinson is out for the season at wide receiver, which opens the door for Jasen Lopez to move into the starting role and pushes Devin Carter into a backup spot. On defense, Cam Brooks is now the primary backup at defensive end, Deamontae Diggs has shifted inside to defensive tackle, and Daniel Lyons is listed as the starter there with Kevin Wynn sidelined, leaving Florida State with a few more lineup questions than it would prefer this late in the week. FSU Finally Showed Fight But One Bigger Question Just Started

Florida State finally had a night that looked and felt like a response, beating Boston College 31-24 and giving interim coach Rick Stockstill his first win. The Seminoles had to climb out of a second-quarter deficit to do it, and Amari Thomas was central to the turnaround, punching in two rushing touchdowns while the offense found enough rhythm to stay in the fight. The game also featured a successful fake field goal, a reminder that the staff was willing to lean on creativity to steal momentum when it mattered.

Even with the result in hand, the bigger question for Florida State is what this win actually means going forward. Beating Boston College was a needed step, and the late fourth-quarter finish showed the Seminoles could still make plays under pressure, but one victory does not erase the uncertainty around where this team is headed under Stockstill. The next stretch will tell whether this was a one-off spark or the start of something more stable. [Read more 🡒]

Florida State Opens A New Chapter With A Telling Game Day Choice

Saturdays matchup with Boston College arrives with a different feel for Florida State, not just because of the noon kickoff on ACC Network, but because it is the first game since Mike Norvells departure. Ashton Daniels gives Florida State a clear offensive centerpiece, with his efficiency and scoring impact standing out on a national level. The defense and special teams have also posted notable statistical achievements, which gives the Seminoles some structure as they move into this new stretch, even if the bigger questions around the program are only beginning to take shape.
