FSU Makes Strong Push For Elite QB Champ Monds

Emerging quarterback talent Wonderful 'Champ' Monds IV feels the warmth of being a top priority during his impactful visit to Florida State's Legacy Weekend, weighing his options amidst interest from powerhouse programs.

Vero Beach's own Wonderful 'Champ' Monds IV is making waves in the college football recruiting scene. The three-star quarterback recently returned to Florida State for a second visit in 2026, soaking up the atmosphere during the Seminoles' Legacy Weekend. Monds arrived Friday afternoon and spent Saturday immersed in the team's first spring scrimmage, engaging with the coaching staff and chatting with former players.

Reflecting on his visit, Monds shared, "Getting back here to see Coach Norvell and the coaching staff was fantastic. Watching the scrimmage gave me a real sense of their on-field coaching style."

Monds took particular interest in the offensive management and his potential role. "I picked up a few things to incorporate into my own game," he noted.

"The intensity they bring to coaching is exactly what I'm looking for. I want to be pushed to reach my full potential, and seeing how they challenge their quarterbacks was inspiring."

His time at FSU also included in-depth discussions with quarterbacks coach Austin Tucker and the offensive staff. "They made me feel like a priority," Monds emphasized. "All day, it was clear they want me at Florida State and see how I fit into their offense."

When asked if he feels like the top quarterback on their list, Monds confidently responded, "Absolutely. Feeling prioritized makes me feel like I'm number one."

Before heading to FSU, Monds visited Florida and has plans to check out Ohio State, Miami, and Notre Dame in the coming weeks. Official visits are still up in the air, but FSU is definitely on his radar.

"I haven't set anything in stone, but I'm considering official visits," he said. "The decision could come anytime from now to summer, whenever it feels right."

Monds is seeking a college that feels like home, staying in close contact with his parents and maintaining strong communication with coaches. He's taking insights from each visit to inform his decision.

Standing at 6-foot-2 and weighing 224 pounds, Monds reclassified from the 2028 to the 2027 class. Ranked as the No. 25 quarterback, he has shown promise despite an injury-shortened 2025 season, completing 45 of 63 passes for 691 yards and seven touchdowns, alongside nine rushes for 33 yards and a rushing touchdown. The previous year, he delivered a standout performance with 2,234 passing yards and 23 touchdowns, complemented by 502 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns.

Monds' journey continues, and as he evaluates his options, the anticipation builds for where this talented quarterback will eventually land.
