Florida State offensive lineman Tye Hylton is headed to the transfer portal, with plans to make the move official next month. The former three-star recruit never saw game action during his two seasons in Tallahassee, spending his time developing on the scout team.
Hylton’s exit narrows the 2023 signing class to just seven remaining players-a notable turnover for a group that once represented the future of the program.
Coming out of Oviedo High School, Hylton was a consensus three-star prospect and one of the top interior offensive linemen in Florida. On3 ranked him No. 43 at his position nationally and No. 87 overall in the state. The 247Sports Composite had him at No. 48 among interior linemen and No. 97 in Florida.
While he didn’t crack the rotation at Florida State, Hylton came in with a strong high school résumé. In his senior season, he helped lead Oviedo to an 8-3 record, a second straight district title, and a spot in the 3M state playoffs.
He even found the end zone once on a rare four-yard carry-an uncommon stat line for a lineman. But his real impact came in the trenches, where he anchored an offense that averaged nearly 475 total yards and almost 40 points per game.
The Lions ran for over 2,200 yards and 22 touchdowns at an impressive clip of 8.2 yards per carry, while also passing for more than 3,000 yards and 39 touchdowns.
As a junior, Hylton started at left tackle and helped Oviedo to another district title and a deep playoff run, with the offense again putting up strong numbers-over 2,000 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns on the ground.
He also competed in track and field, showcasing his athleticism as a thrower-something that often translates well to the leverage and explosiveness needed in the trenches.
While his time at FSU didn’t result in playing time, Hylton still has multiple years of eligibility remaining and will look for a fresh start elsewhere. For a young lineman with size, experience in a Power Five program, and a strong prep background, there’s still time to carve out a meaningful college career.
