Florida State’s roster shuffle right before camp sent Chris Carbin in a new direction, and the true freshman defensive end has already landed at Blinn College.
The Seminoles dismissed Carbin for unspecified reasons just days before fall camp began, a surprising move that came after he had already enrolled early, gone through Tour of Duty and taken part in spring practice. Earlier this week, Carbin announced that he had signed with Blinn College, a NJCAA Division I program.
Blinn is no stranger to high-profile names. Cam Newton and Michael Bishop both played there, and the program moved 15 players to the next level this past season, including defensive tackle LaMarc Strahan at Texas A&M and wide receiver Dewayne Peace at Houston.
Carbin’s path to Florida State was a winding one. The Georgia native originally committed to Georgia Tech, then decommitted in October before joining #Tribe26 less than a month later. Florida State had offered him in July of last year and kept pushing after getting him on campus for home games against Alabama and Pittsburgh.
At Florida State, Carbin signed as a three-star prospect in December and was expected to redshirt while working with the scout team this fall. At Blinn, he may get a chance to see more action.
During his senior year at Hillgrove High School, the 6-foot-4, 236-pound defensive end put up 39 tackles, 12 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 2 pass deflections. He was rated the No. 731 overall prospect, the No. 77 EDGE, and the No. 74 player in Georgia in the 2026 class by the 247Sports Composite Ratings.
Carbin will have five seasons of eligibility remaining.
Florida State’s loss does not appear to be a major one on paper. The Seminoles still have seven other true freshmen defensive linemen on the roster, and Earnest Rankins, Franklin Whitley, and Jaemin Pinckney are currently giving themselves the best chance to earn early snaps.

Former Florida State Standout Gets Another Shot With The Cowboys
The Cowboys are giving Jashaun Corbin another chance, signing the former Florida State running back and moving on from Dominic Richardson. Corbin has been in and around NFL rosters before, including practice squad stops with the Giants, Panthers, Falcons and Patriots, and he also spent time in the UFL as he kept chasing a longer look.
For Florida State fans, it is another reminder that Corbins pro path has stayed alive through persistence as much as opportunity.
