FSU Depth Chart Shakeup Raises Big Questions Before Boston College

With critical changes to their lineup after dismissing head coach Mike Norvell, FSU aims to revitalize their season ahead of a pivotal matchup against Boston College.

Florida State heads into Saturday afternoon’s matchup at Boston College with a depth chart that looks a little different than it did earlier in the week.

The Seminoles are set for their ninth game of the 2026 season, opening a two-game road trip in Chestnut Hill against the Eagles. A loss would leave Florida State on the edge of bowl eligibility as it tries to keep a third straight disappointing season from slipping further away.

A few hours before kickoff, the Seminoles made several personnel adjustments.

The biggest offensive change came at quarterback, where junior Malachi Marshall was taken off the depth chart. That leaves Ashton Daniels and Kevin Sperry to handle the position against Boston College.

Florida State also had to reshuffle at receiver after Duce Robinson was ruled out for the season. Jasen Lopez moved into Robinson’s starting spot, while freshman Devin Carter took over Lopez’s previous backup role behind Micahi Danzy.

There were changes on the defensive line as well. Freshman Cam Brooks is now the primary backup to Darryll Desir at defensive end after making his debut last week, following an Achilles tear early in the offseason.

Inside, Deamontae Diggs shifted to the interior because of injury and is listed behind Mandrell Desir at one of the defensive tackle spots. On the other side, Daniel Lyons is the top starter with Kevin Wynn sidelined.

The depth chart also listed the following position battles: K.J. Kirkland, Sr.

OR Antonio Cromartie Jr., So.; Ricky Knight III, Jr. OR Jordan Crutchfield, Fr.; and Conor McAneney, So.

OR Gabe Panikowski, 5th year.

FSU Finally Showed Fight But One Bigger Question Just Started

Florida State finally had a night that looked and felt like a response, beating Boston College 31-24 and giving interim coach Rick Stockstill his first win. The Seminoles had to climb out of a second-quarter deficit to do it, and Amari Thomas was central to the turnaround, punching in two rushing touchdowns while the offense found enough rhythm to stay in the fight. The game also featured a successful fake field goal, a reminder that the staff was willing to lean on creativity to steal momentum when it mattered.

Even with the result in hand, the bigger question for Florida State is what this win actually means going forward. Beating Boston College was a needed step, and the late fourth-quarter finish showed the Seminoles could still make plays under pressure, but one victory does not erase the uncertainty around where this team is headed under Stockstill. The next stretch will tell whether this was a one-off spark or the start of something more stable. [Read more 🡒]

Florida State Opens A New Chapter With A Telling Game Day Choice

Saturdays matchup with Boston College arrives with a different feel for Florida State, not just because of the noon kickoff on ACC Network, but because it is the first game since Mike Norvells departure. Rick Stockstill takes over as interim head coach, and the Seminoles enter this one trying to steady things while still leaning on the parts of the roster that have carried them at times this season.

Ashton Daniels gives Florida State a clear offensive centerpiece, with his efficiency and scoring impact standing out on a national level. The defense and special teams have also posted notable statistical achievements, which gives the Seminoles some structure as they move into this new stretch, even if the bigger questions around the program are only beginning to take shape. Florida State Finally Got The Response Fans Desperately Needed

Florida State finally got the kind of response it had been waiting for after moving on from Mike Norvell and turning the program over to interim head coach Rick Stockstill. The change gave the Seminoles a fresh voice on the sideline, and it quickly produced something the fan base had been desperate to see: a road win.

Stockstills first trip in charge ended with Florida State snapping a 12-game road losing streak by beating Boston College, a result that carried real weight beyond the standings. It was the Seminoles first road victory in nearly three seasons, a small but meaningful sign that the reset has at least begun to take hold. [Read more 🡒]
