FSU Blows Late Lead in Costly Fourth Straight Loss

Florida State's late-game collapse continues a troubling trend as the Seminoles search for answers amid a growing losing streak.

Seminoles Let Late Lead Slip in Fourth Straight Loss, Fall 75-70 to College of Charleston

Florida State women’s basketball is searching for answers after dropping its fourth straight game, this time a 75-70 heartbreaker to College of Charleston at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center. The Seminoles had control late, leading by six with just under four minutes to play, but couldn’t hold off a late surge from the Cougars, who closed the game on an 8-0 run to steal a road win.

This one stung because FSU had its chances. The game was tight from the jump - tied at 15 after the first quarter, a one-point lead at the half - but the 'Noles looked poised to close it out when they built a 65-59 advantage in the fourth. That’s when Charleston flipped the switch, capitalizing on defensive stops and cashing in at the free throw line down the stretch to ice it.

Despite the result, there were some bright spots for Florida State. Junior guard Emma Risch turned in her best performance of the season, dropping 18 points and grabbing seven boards. She was aggressive, confident, and looked every bit the scoring threat FSU needs her to be moving forward.

Off the bench, center Avery Treadwell was a force. She went a perfect 5-for-5 from the field for 13 points and added nine rebounds, providing a spark in the paint that kept Florida State in rhythm for much of the game. Jasmine Shavers chipped in 12 points and seven boards, while Sole Williams added 10 points to round out four Seminoles in double figures.

But in the end, it wasn’t enough to stop Charleston’s late push. Taylor Barbot led the Cougars with 20 points and was instrumental in their comeback, especially in crunch time.

Now sitting at 4-8 overall and 0-1 in ACC play, Florida State is in need of a reset. The schedule doesn’t get any easier, with a tough home matchup against Virginia Tech looming. That game, set for Thursday in Tallahassee, will be FSU’s second ACC contest - and a critical opportunity to stop the slide before it snowballs any further.
