Florida State Tight End Landen Thomas Enters Portal After Playing All Season

Florida State loses a former top tight end recruit as Landen Thomas eyes a fresh start through the NCAA Transfer Portal.

Florida State is set to lose one of its young offensive weapons, as sophomore tight end Landen Thomas has officially entered the NCAA Transfer Portal after two seasons in Tallahassee.

Thomas, a 6-foot-4, 234-pound tight end out of Moultrie, Georgia, saw action in all 12 games this past season. While his stat line was modest-three catches for 35 yards and two touchdowns-his impact came in key moments.

He found the end zone on a short 2-yard grab against Kent State and showed his big-play potential with a 25-yard touchdown against Pitt. For a player in a crowded tight end room, those flashes were enough to remind folks why he came to FSU with so much buzz.

That buzz started back in 2024, when Thomas made an early impression as a true freshman. Not only did he appear in every game, he earned a starting role in the final seven contests of the season.

He finished that year with 14 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown, and even chipped in a two-point conversion against in-state rival Florida. His first career catch?

Thomas was a major recruiting win for Florida State, flipped from Georgia as a Top247 prospect. He brought size, athleticism, and pass-catching upside to a Seminoles offense that was looking to evolve its tight end usage.

While he didn’t fully break out during his time in garnet and gold, the foundation was there. Now, he’ll look to build on that elsewhere.

He enters the portal with three years to play two, giving him some flexibility depending on how things shake out at his next stop.

The NCAA Transfer Portal window for Division I players officially opens January 2nd and runs through January 16th. Unlike previous years, 2026 will feature just one portal window-so decisions like Thomas’ are coming with a little more urgency.

For Florida State, it’s another reminder of how quickly rosters can shift in the modern college football landscape. For Thomas, it’s a chance to find a new fit and make the most of the talent that made him one of the most coveted tight ends in his class.
