Florida State Targets Miami Staffer for Key Off-Field Leadership Role

Florida State continues revamping its football infrastructure with a key addition from a rival programs recruiting ranks.

Florida State is making major moves behind the scenes as it continues to reshape its off-field infrastructure - and the latest addition brings serious recruiting firepower to Tallahassee.

The Seminoles are set to hire Taylor Edwards as Executive Director of Player Acquisitions, according to multiple reports. It’s the second big front office hire of the weekend for FSU, which also brought in longtime football mind John Garrett as its new general manager.

Edwards is no stranger to the grind of roster building. He arrives in Tallahassee after a brief but attention-grabbing stint with the Miami Hurricanes, where he joined Mario Cristobal’s staff in a surprise move - especially considering he had just been tapped to join Bill Belichick’s inaugural college staff. That alone speaks to the kind of industry respect Edwards commands.

Before his time in Coral Gables, Edwards spent two seasons at South Carolina as the director of player personnel, helping the Gamecocks navigate the always-competitive SEC recruiting landscape. His résumé also includes key roles at Maryland, Arkansas, and UAB, where he led recruiting operations and helped shape rosters from the ground up.

And if that’s not enough, Edwards also held the title of Director of Player Personnel at Samford and spent time on Nick Saban’s Alabama staff as a player personnel assistant - a role that often serves as a proving ground for future leaders in the recruiting world. Working under Saban, even in an off-field role, tends to sharpen a coach’s eye for talent and process.

With this move, Florida State is clearly doubling down on its commitment to elite-level roster management. Edwards brings a wealth of experience across Power Five programs and Group of Five stops, and he’s been part of some of the most respected recruiting operations in the country.

As the college football landscape continues to evolve - with the transfer portal, NIL, and early signing periods all reshaping how teams build their rosters - hires like this are becoming just as important as what happens on Saturdays. FSU’s latest additions signal a program that’s not just thinking about the next game, but about how to sustain success for seasons to come.
