Florida State’s week is packed with noise on and off the field, and the biggest headline has nothing to do with what happens between the lines. The Seminoles are reportedly “looking into” a reunion with former coach Jimbo Fisher, who is now serving as a studio analyst for the ACC Network.
Fisher’s first run in Tallahassee ended after the 2017 season, when he moved on to take the Texas A&M job. The Aggies later bought him out during the 2023 season for a record $77.5 million.
During his time at Florida State, Fisher helped deliver 83 wins, three ACC titles and the 2013 National Championship. A return would be the cheapest route for the program, though that low price only exists because Texas A&M paid an enormous sum for him to leave.
The idea has gained some traction with part of the fanbase, even if plenty of supporters still want no part of it.
While that conversation swirls, Florida State volleyball is heading into a demanding stretch with Miami. The Seminoles will host the Hurricanes on September 23 in Tully Gymnasium, then head to Coral Gables on September 27 for the second and final matchup of the season. Miami enters at 2-7 after a rough start that included losing 20 sets in a row before finally beating LSU in four sets.
Florida State comes in at 5-5 after a four-set loss to No. 10 Florida, and the team has already shown it can land a punch, most notably with an upset win over No.
16 Kansas. The challenge now is turning that talent into cleaner play.
The Seminoles have had their share of ups and downs, and limiting mistakes will be the key moving forward.
The women’s soccer team also gets back to work on September 27, when it travels to Kentucky to face Louisville in its second ACC game of the season. Florida State is coming off a 2-2 draw against NC State, a match in which it fought back to avoid a loss.
The Cardinals are 8-1-1, and the Seminoles will be stepping into one of the toughest tests on the schedule at a time when Louisville looks like the team to beat in the ACC. Florida State is 4-1-2 and has struggled to consistently create scoring chances.
Recruiting remains active, too, even with 2027 and beyond looking uncertain for the program. Cornerbacks coach Blue Adams recently visited Trey Johnson, a three-star defensive back in Texas who is committed to UNC.
Johnson announced his pledge to the Tar Heels in May, but Florida State has kept the door open and continued contact. A flip is still possible, though it would take a serious push from the Seminoles.
