Florida State’s injury problems took another harsh turn this week, and this one lands especially hard because it hits the passing game right after a small bit of good news.
Duce Robinson is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a season-ending ACL tear, cutting short his senior year. Robinson had left last week’s game against Clemson with an injury and never returned, though he was later seen standing on the sideline without his helmet. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported early this afternoon that Robinson would not be able to come back this season.
That’s a brutal blow for a receiver who was coming off career-best production in 2025, even though the 2026 season had been less productive for him. With Ousmane Kromah and Samuel Singleton Jr. dealing with injuries in the backfield, Robinson was projected to take on a bigger role in the offense as the run game stalled out.
The timing could hardly be worse for Florida State. The Seminoles are already scraping deeper into their running back depth chart, down to the third and fourth string options, and now they’ve lost the top threat they had on the outside. All of that comes just after the wide receiver room finally got a little healthier.
Highly-touted freshman Devin Carter was back against Clemson after missing the first seven games of the season. He didn’t record any stats in that game, but simply getting him on the field marked a step toward full strength at receiver. Robinson’s injury immediately undercuts that progress.
It also leaves Florida State with a much tougher personnel puzzle. The Seminoles can’t just swap in another player and expect the same result.
Carter brings talent and should see more action now, but Robinson was the kind of big target who gave Ashton Daniels a better chance to attack down the field. Florida State does not appear to have another receiver who can simply replace that role.
One possible answer is to lean harder on the tight ends. They have combined for just 14 receptions this season, but with the receiver room now thinner and less imposing in terms of height, getting someone like Desirrio Riles more involved may be the cleanest way forward.

Florida State Just Entered A Defining Stretch It Can't Afford To Miss
Florida States football future suddenly sits at the center of a much larger institutional test. The university has moved on from Mike Norvell, and now the Seminoles are trying to line up a new athletic director and a new head coach while carrying a financial burden that was already well over $430 million before the buyout hit the books.
The timing only makes the challenge sharper, with the early signing period looming and a recruiting calendar that does not slow down for administrative turnover. Florida State has to make a hire that stabilizes the program quickly, but it also has to do it while weighing debt, leadership structure and the kind of long-term commitment that can keep the next coach from walking into another crisis before he even gets started. Florida States Rebuilt Roster Already Looks Ahead Of Schedule
Florida States mens basketball team wasted little time showing how far along this rebuilt roster might be, rolling past Florida A&M in its regular season opener, 112-69. Sebastian Rancik led the way with 25 points, Marcis Ponder added a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, and Anthony Robinson II chipped in 16 points as the Seminoles backed up the promise they had already flashed in exhibitions.
For Luke Loucks, now in his second season, the early returns are encouraging because this group was assembled through a mix of transfers and recruits and already looks comfortable playing together. One game does not define a season, but Florida States blend of production and pace in the opener suggested a roster that may be ahead of schedule as it settles into the year. [Read more 🡒]
Boston College Has A Real Chance To Change This Seasons Story
Boston College has already done the hard part of making this season feel different from the last one. At 4-4, the Eagles have shown real progress after a 2-10 finish a year ago, and they have given themselves a chance to turn that improvement into something more meaningful as the schedule tightens down the stretch.
Florida State is part of a final run that will tell the story of where Boston College really stands, with Notre Dame, Syracuse and Miami still ahead. There is still a path to bowl eligibility if the Eagles can handle the right games, and for a team that has already taken a clear step forward, the next few weeks will decide whether this becomes a modest rebound or a season that changes the conversation entirely.
