FSU Football Faces More Transfer Portal Movement, Eyes Future Stability at QB and WR
Florida State’s 2024 recruiting class continues to take hits, with wide receiver Elijah Moore becoming the latest to enter the transfer portal. A former four-star prospect, Moore’s departure adds to a growing trend - more than half of the blue-chip talent from that class is either already gone or planning to exit when the portal officially reopens on January 2nd.
It’s a concerning development for a program that’s been trying to build sustained momentum through high-end recruiting. Losing this many top-tier players in such a short span isn’t just about depth - it’s about continuity, culture, and the ability to develop young talent into reliable contributors. And when it comes to wide receiver, that challenge becomes even more pronounced if the quarterback situation remains unsettled.
Quarterback Carousel Continues
The quarterback position - the engine of any offense - has been a revolving door in Tallahassee in recent years, and it looks like the Seminoles are once again preparing to hit the portal in search of stability under center. Until they find a long-term answer at QB, keeping elite wide receiver talent like Moore happy and productive will be a tough ask.
There’s no question that consistency at quarterback can elevate a program’s ability to develop and retain skill position players. Without it, even the most promising recruits can feel the pull of the portal. For FSU, finding that answer at QB isn’t just about next season - it’s about setting the tone for the next era of Seminole football.
Recruiting: Eyes on Cam Pritchett
While some doors are closing, others may be opening. New edge coach Coach Williams is already making waves on the recruiting trail, setting his sights on flipping four-star 2027 defensive end Cam Pritchett from Oregon.
Pritchett has been on Williams’ radar for a while - the coach had recruited him during his time at Syracuse - and that relationship is clearly still strong. “The consistency with Florida State has been great,” Pritchett said.
“They show that they really want me. Coach Williams came from Syracuse, and he was recruiting me up there too.
He is a cool guy and I will be getting back down there soon.”
That visit could be a pivotal moment. Pritchett is one of the more coveted edge prospects in his class, and bringing him to Tallahassee would be a big win for a defensive staff looking to reload with top-tier talent.
Around FSU Athletics
Women’s basketball is on a brief holiday break and will return to action on New Year’s Day with a road trip to Syracuse. It’s a chance for the team to reset and gear up for the heart of ACC play.
On the soccer front, Florida State continues to bolster its roster with three new additions: Anaiyah Robinson, Ashley Henderson, and Nyah Rose are set to join the Seminoles from Tennessee, Memphis, and SMU, respectively. Each brings a different skill set to a program that has consistently been among the nation’s elite, and their arrival adds even more depth to an already talented squad.
From the transfer portal to the recruiting trail, it’s a busy - and critical - stretch for Florida State athletics. The football program faces real questions about roster retention and quarterback stability, but there are also signs of progress, especially on the recruiting front. As 2025 winds down, the next few weeks will be telling in how the Seminoles position themselves for the future.
