Florida State is making waves in the recruiting world, and it’s all thanks to a familiar face on their coaching staff. The Seminoles are in hot pursuit of Kaden Henderson, one of the top linebackers in the 2027 class, and they’ve got an ace up their sleeve-FSU legend Ernie Sims.
Henderson, a standout from Jesuit High in Tampa, ranks as the nation’s third-best linebacker. With powerhouses like Alabama, Miami, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Texas A&M vying for his commitment, the Seminoles are pulling out all the stops. And it seems their secret weapon is working.
“Coach Sims is doing a great job,” Henderson shared. “He’s a relationship guy, and we’re building that connection.
Having him as the linebacker coach is huge. I’m really happy for him and love what he brings.”
Before meeting Sims, Henderson did his homework. He discovered that Sims had achieved everything he aspires to-being a five-star recruit and making it to the league. That legacy resonates with Henderson, making the prospect of being coached by Sims all the more appealing.
“Just knowing I could be coached by a guy like that speaks volumes,” Henderson said.
Landing Henderson would be a significant win for Sims and the Seminoles, but it won’t be easy. Notre Dame and Miami are both aggressively pursuing the talented linebacker.
“Coach Marcus Freeman at Notre Dame has done a great job,” Henderson noted. “I’m planning an official visit there. It’s a great school.”
Meanwhile, Miami is making a strong push, with Coach Corey Hetherman leading the charge.
“Coach Hetherman is a defensive guru,” Henderson said. “He’s visited my school and home multiple times, showing me I’m a priority. They really want me to stay in Florida.”
Despite the competition, FSU remains in a strong position, largely due to Sims’ influence. The Seminoles are hopeful that the connection Henderson feels with Sims will tip the scales in their favor.
