Florida State Linked to Rising Star QB Transfer from Unexpected Program

Florida State may be eyeing a decorated Mountain West star to help fill its rapidly thinning quarterback room.

Florida State is officially in the quarterback market, and one name to keep a close eye on is Anthony Colandrea - a dynamic dual-threat signal caller who just wrapped up a breakout season at UNLV.

Colandrea, who entered the transfer portal on Friday, is already drawing interest from the Seminoles, and for good reason. After transferring to UNLV from Virginia, the 6-foot, 205-pound quarterback lit up the Mountain West in 2025, throwing for 3,459 yards and 23 touchdowns against nine interceptions. He added another 649 yards and 10 scores on the ground, showcasing the kind of mobility and playmaking ability that can change a game - and a season.

His efforts didn’t go unnoticed. Colandrea was named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year and earned a spot on the All-Mountain West First Team. He was the engine of a high-powered Rebels offense, and his blend of arm strength, quick decision-making, and escapability made him a nightmare for opposing defenses.

Before his time in Las Vegas, Colandrea spent two seasons at Virginia, where he threw for over 4,000 yards and 26 touchdowns. While his 20 interceptions during that span show he was still refining his game, he also added over 500 rushing yards and two scores on the ground - early flashes of the dual-threat potential that fully came to life at UNLV.

Originally from St. Petersburg, Florida, Colandrea played his high school ball at Lakewood and was a three-star recruit coming out. He’s no stranger to the Sunshine State, and a return home to suit up for the Seminoles would be a full-circle moment - but more importantly, it could be a major win for a Florida State team that’s facing a quarterback reset.

With three quarterbacks from the 2025 roster - including starter Tommy Castellanos - set to depart this offseason, FSU is actively searching for experience and upside at the position. Colandrea checks both boxes. He’s proven he can lead an offense, and he’s still got room to grow.

FSU has also been connected to Old Dominion transfer Colton Joseph, but Colandrea’s proven production at the FBS level and his ability to impact the game in multiple ways make him one of the more intriguing options on the board.

The quarterback carousel is spinning fast this offseason, and Florida State is clearly looking to land a difference-maker. With Colandrea now in the portal and already on the Seminoles’ radar, this could be a pairing worth watching closely in the weeks ahead.
